Tyrone High’s girls and boys track and field teams launched their 2007 home dual meet schedule on a chilly afternoon, with the boys logging another convincing victory over the Rockets thinclads. The Golden Eagles out-pointed Mt. Union 99 to 51, while the Lady Eagles lost another heartbreaker to the Southern Huntingdon girls 72–69.
Tyrone won 13 of the 18 events and scored huge numbers in the field events outscoring the Rocket throwers and jumpers by a 46 to 17 score. Golden Eagle Jumpers swept the jumps for the second meet in a row. Workhorse Ben Ingle (400, 800, 1600 relay and 3200 relay) had another banner day on the track winning four first places. John Franco (100, 200, 1600 Relay) dominated the sprints winning three events. Ethan Etters (Long and Triple Jump, High Jump) placed first in the jumps. Ross Black (110 and 300 Hurdles, 1600 Relay) won three events and TJ Albright ran on two winning relay teams (1600 and 3200 Relay).
“Coach Everhart and I were impressed by Johnny Franco’s split in the 1600 Relay (51.1)”, Coach Yaniello said. “It was the first time Johnny ever ran a 400 in a meet. Franco is very strong runner and his times will continue to come down as the season unfolds.”
In the girls meet the Lady Eagles won nine of the 17 events contested. Like the boys, the girls won all the jumps for the second meet in a row and dominated the field outscoring the Rockets 41 to 21. Southern Huntingdon swept the relays and outscored the Lady Eagles 51 to 28 on the track. Tyrone could not field any relay teams due to sickness and injuries.
Liz Tepsic (100 LH, 300 IH, Long and Triple Jumps) continued to lead the Lady Eagles winning four individual events. Rachel Emigh (Pole Vault-High Jump), and Christina Daugherty (800-1600) were double winners.
“Sarah Cox has stepped up in the field events today winning the Shot Put and placing second in the Discus and Javelin,” Coach Yaniello said.
Next up for the Tyrone thinclads is a home meet with BG, Thursday at 4 pm.
