Coming up fast on the Christmas holiday, Tyrone’s eighth and ninth grade boys basketball teams took on three more opponents last week, and almost got through the week without a blemish on their records. Finishing the week before, with both teams holding a record of 4-0, Tyrone played the Bellefonte Red Raiders, Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders, and the Indian Valley Warriors. While the ninth graders dropped a tough game to BG to finish the week 6-1, the eighth graders stayed perfect at 7-0.
On Tuesday Dec 20,, the Red Raiders traveled to Tyrone to take on the Eagles. The eighth graders took the court first, starting out strong against the Raiders with a 12-3 first quarter lead behind seven points from Andy Brokenshire and a three-pointer from Levi Riehart. They then held on through the next three quarters to win 29-22. Brokenshire finished with 11 points, with seven added by Eric Desch.
In the ninth grade game, all five starters got into the act in the first period, outscoring Bellefonte 15-6, and then took a commanding 23-8 halftime lead. The second half was more of the same, with the Eagles holding the Raiders to just three points, and the game finished 45-11.
Kyle Updyke led the scoring with 12 points along with nine other Eagles joining in the scoring column.
