Bellwood-Antis breezed through the track and field meet at Bellwood, easily defeating Bishop Guilfoyle, Southern Huntingdon and West Branch.
The Blue Devil boys (9-1) slammed Bishop Guilfoyle 124-26, Southern Huntingdon 126-24 and West Branch 114-36.
Sophomore Brandon Pruznak led the Blue Devils with wins in the 200 and 400 races and Ben Hatch added a first in the 800 as well as running on the winning 1600 and 3200 relays.
Aaron Bell took a first in the 1600, Dan Kovac was first in the triple jump, Tyler Narehood won the shot put, Tony DelGrosso won the discus, Dustin Harris won the javelin and Ricky Shawley won the pole vault.
The Blue Devils won all three relay events. Devon Clapper, Johnathan Davilla, Harris and Kovac won the 400 relay, Kovac, Ted Bailor, Chris Edmiston, and Hatch won the 1600 and Hatch, Jamey Rimmey, Elliot Geist and Evan Hughes won the 3200.
“Our younger kids are stepping up, improving every match,” said B-A boys coach Nick Lovrich. At the same time, the older, more experienced kids have been consistent performers for us all year long. It was nice to see Tyler Narehood get back over 45 feet in the shot out. He seemed to have hit a wall there for a while.
“Tuesday’s meet is a huge one. Anytime we play Tyrone in any sport, you know you can throw out the records and just go at each other and hope your best is better than theirs.”
The Lady Blue Devils (8-2) led by a trio of wins from senior jumper Steph Hatch also won three times on Thursday. The B-A girls downed Bishop Guilfoyle 113-36, Southern Huntingdon 109-41 and West Branch 133-16.
Hatch won all three jumping events taking the high jump, long jump and triple jump and added a leg in the winning 400 relay team, along with Lauren Carter, Heather Greene and Ashley Mueller.
Allison Sinisi added wins in both the javelin and pole vault. Lauren Leap won the 400, Jenna Ralston won the 800, Carter won the 300 low hurdles and Mueller won the 100 intermediate hurdles for the Lady Blue Devils.
“It was a wonderful day with good times and distances,” was the way Bellwood-Antis coach Julie Roseborough described the track meets. Our field was solid and Steph Hatch had a really great day winning all three jumps. It was hard to convince her to get into the triple jump, she hasn’t been doing that event much. Lindsey Claar had a good day in field events today. We always depend on our four seniors for points, but we also have a good class of juniors and our freshmen are starting to score points for us as well. They are helping us now and the experience they are getting will help us for the future.”
The Bellwood-Antis track teams will be at the Shippensburg University invitational on Saturday, then get ready for the annual showdown between the Blue Devils and backyard rival Tyrone on Tuesday. The meet, at Bellwood, is scheduled for a 3:45 p.m. start time.
