Retro Style, operated by Glenna Wiseman, is a beauty shop with a 1950s style diner theme that opened recently in Warriors Mark.
Located on what is known as Ridge Road, Retro Style is different in appearance than most beauty shops.
It is attached to Wiseman’s house and has a separate entrance way into the shop. As soon as customers open the door of Retro Style, they are immediately taken back to a different time period, the 50s.
The room is decorated with memorabilia from that decade, such as an Elvis poster and a jukebox. The floor is black and white checkered linoleum, just like an old-time diner.
Also, there is a real diner booth for customers to sit and relax in while they are waiting for friends to get their hair done. The bathroom is decorated in a Coca Cola theme, and there are some old-time curling irons and hairdryers to set the atmosphere.
Wiseman is the only hair stylist on staff at Retro Style, and she takes hair appointments as well as has business hours. The hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
She said her shop is a place where the whole family can go because she can cut men, women and children’s hair, and most of her customers are cuts and perms. She said she always welcomes new customers.
Wiseman has years of experience as a hair stylist. She previously owned a beauty shop in downtown Warriors Mark from 1986 to 1996. Then she was the manager of Super Cuts in State College for five years. However, she had the opportunity to create a beauty shop in her own house with her own theme, so that is how Retro Style was originated.
She said the 50s style diner theme gives her beauty shop an edge and makes her shop different from the other salons that are out there.
She also said people should come out and take a look at the place, just for the atmosphere that it provides.
Wiseman would like to thank her husband Scott because he was the one who completed the work on the beauty shop. She would like to thank her parents Alfred and Faye Sigel and her sister Melody McMillen for supporting her. Also, she would like to thank her brother-in-law Chad Perry for completing the electrical work and Robert Pighetti who helped with the concrete work.
