Four members of the Bellwood-Antis FFA Chapter earned awards at the 2003 State FFA Activities week, held June 10-12 at Penn State University.
Joe Carosielli, son of Anthony and Kathy Carosielli of Bellwood, finished as the tenth individual in the PA State FFA Agricultural Mechanics Contest, earning him a gold medal.
“I was pretty excited that I did so well,” said Carosielli. “I worked hard to get there and worked even harder when I was there. I was a good experience.”
According to Carosielli, the Agricultural Mechanics contest pitted more than 35 individuals in a test of variety in mechanical skills.
He said the testing included hands-on contests, such as testing vaccuum pumps for milking dairy cows and wiring a board loaded with switches, as well as written examinations.
“I think I did pretty well,” said the soft-spoken student. “I’m glad I could represent Bellwood-Antis in a positive way.”
Other B-A students also were awarded for their efforts.
The B-A FFA team of Carosielli, Brandon Cherry, Dustin Hoffer and Ben Grove placed seventh in the competition.
In individual competition, Cherry, Hoffer and Grove placed 22nd, 24th and 26, respectively, all earning bronze awards in the contest.
Also attending the event from Bellwood-Antis was Jim Mackereth, agriculture teacher and FFA advisor.
More than 1,300 FFA members, advisors and chaperoes participated in the three-day event.
