Rain or shine, the new program director at the YMCA says the race will go on tomorrow.
Dave Shildt told The Daily Herald that registration for the event opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 8:45 a.m., with the races, both 10K and 5 K, starting promptly at 9 a.m.
The race starts and finishes at the Tyrone Area High School on Clay Avenue. Officials say there is plenty of free parking available and the locker rooms at the high school will be open.
Both the 10K and 5K courses are an accurate, wheel-measured loop. The races start simultaneously and follow the same route for about 2.25 miles before the 5K will break off from the 10K path, and return to the high school and finish line.
Cost to enter the race is $15. Checks are to be made payable to the Tyrone YMCA.
Following the race, the Tyrone Salvation Army will be hosting an all-you-can eat spaghetti lunch at the high school from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is free for children under three; those aged 4-12, $2.50; and adults, $5.
Trophies will be awarded to the first place finishers in both the mens’ and womens’ divisions. Medals will be awarded to the top three men and women in the following categories: 18 and under, 19 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 and over, and wheelchair.
Sponsors of the event include Tyrone Hospital, Logan Beverage, Endurance Athletics, J.H. Stroud Design and Warriors Mark Auto World, Inc.
The Race Committee is comprised of YMCA Executive Director Amy Hampton, Doug Hoover, Larry Haag, Tammy Snyder and Jim Gehret.
