The First Presbyterian Church of Tyrone has opened its annual Strawberry Festival for today, starting at 4 p.m. and continuing through 7 p.m.
At the event, there will be a variety of cakes and other tasty treats to enjoy by all in attendance. Strawberries, ice cream, biscuits, angel food cake, sloppy joes and chicken salad sandwiches are on the menu.
The Board of Deacons, with Sally Miller as the president, planned the Strawberry Festival as a fund raiser for the church.
The money raised will be used to pay for the new church dishwasher as well as flowers and other materials used for church purposes.
Church member Mary Wagner said that approximately 100 chicken salad sandwiches were being prepared for the event as well as numerous cakes and sandwiches to accompany the strawberries.
The First Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Bob Dunkelberger, will also be having church picnics at Reservoir and DelGrosso’s Park in the future.
