A business and building that has been vacant for two years will re-open under new ownership in downtown Tyrone.
Jason Vaux of Philipsburg will oversee the new operation slated to begin business in the former Radio Shack at the corner of Tenth Street and Logan Avenue.
“We will open either the last week of June or the first week of July,” Vaux told The Daily Herald this morning.
The Vaux family has been operating an electronics store in Philipsburg since 1971 and has been affiliated with Radio Shack since 1975. His family attempted to buy the vacant store in Tyrone three years ago, but the timing wasn’t right. So Jason waited until the building went up for sheriffs sale this past May.
The store will open as Vaux Electronics as negotiations with Radio Shack continue.
“We’ll start by featuring Verizon cellular phones and our satellite TV division featuring both Direct TV and The Dish Network,” said Vaux. “I will be at the store two or three days a week, and we will have one full time employee to start. As things grow we will add another part time employee.”
Vaux Electronics will coincide its opening with the launch of the new Verizon Push to Talk phones being offered. All current inventory in the store will be offered at discount prices.
The store will be open based on the hours of business of other businesses in Tyrone.
“We will start by being open 9 to 5 and then test the waters possibly being open until 6 pm” said Vaux.
The new owner says he’s very impressed with the look of downtown Tyrone.
“I like it, the sidewalks are beautiful, as is the new park and library,” he said.
Vaux has already had the opportunity to meet some people in Tyrone thanks to a former owner of the Radio Shack.
“Bev Getz of Warriors Mark has been a big help and has introduced me to a lot of contacts,” he said. “We own the building the whole way to the back on Logan Avenue and our looking for renters for some of that space.”
Vaux even indicated that if business goes well he will remodel the outside of the building from its current yellow brick to red brick to go along with the look of the downtown area.
So another new business is about to call Tyrone home. We welcome the Vaux family and invite you to give them a warm welcome.
