{"id":1104,"date":"2008-07-16T12:10:17","date_gmt":"2008-07-16T16:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/v3\/?p=1104"},"modified":"2008-07-17T12:13:02","modified_gmt":"2008-07-17T16:13:02","slug":"mayor-issues-proclamation-announcing-august-2-as-james-crowther-day-in-tyrone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/?p=1104","title":{"rendered":"Mayor issues Proclamation announcing August 2 as James Crowther Day in Tyrone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/v3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/dscf5561w.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1105\" title=\"dscf5561w\" src=\"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/v3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/dscf5561w-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/dscf5561w-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/dscf5561w.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Before Monday night\u2019s Borough Council meeting began, Mayor Kilmartin read a proclamation declaring August 2, 2008 to be Colonel James Crowther Day in the Borough of Tyrone.<br \/>\nOn hand to receive the Mayor\u2019s proclamation was Colonel Crowther Foundation President Bob Hileman, Jr. and his wife Carol, Secretary\/Treasurer of the foundation.<br \/>\nMembers of The Keystone Regiment joined Mayor Kilmartin and President Hileman for the event.<br \/>\nPresident Hileman introduced Mike Gherrity and Jeff Friday to the Borough Council as the co-founders of the civil war reenactment and living history organization.<br \/>\nThe Keystone Regiment will bring to life two military units that existed in Tyrone many years ago.<br \/>\nTheir infantry unit reenacts Company A of the 110th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers.<br \/>\nThis group of men came together originally for the 90-day service in response to President Lincoln\u2019s call for volunteers after the firing on Fort Sumter.<br \/>\nThe Keystone Regiment\u2019s artillery unit reenacts Battery B, Tyrone Artillery.<br \/>\nJames Crowther was commissioned a First Lieutenant in the Tyrone Artillery before becoming Captain of the Tyrone Cavalry.<br \/>\nBorough Council was informed by President Hileman about a tribute to Colonel Crowther that will take place later this year. The National Park Service will place a panel concerning Colonel Crowther on their Wall of Honor at the Chancellorsville Visitor\u2019s Center, Chancellorsville, Virginia. The panel will have the Colonel\u2019s portrait and the following text:<br \/>\nColonel James E. Crowther<br \/>\n110th Pennsylvania Infantry<br \/>\nColonel James Crowther is the highest-ranking officer buried in Fredericksburg National Cemetery. A former Burgess of Tyrone, PA., Crowther died on May 3, 1863, while gallantly attempting to hold back the fierce Confederate onslaught at Chancellorsville. \u201cHis death is much regretted,\u201d wrote his commanding officer. \u201cHe was a brave and fearless soldier, esteemed by all.\u201d<br \/>\nPresident Hileman stated, \u201cThis is indeed a special honor for one of the founding fathers of the Tyrone community.\u201d<br \/>\nHe also stated that members of The Colonel Crowther Foundation\u2019s Board of Directors will travel to Chancellorsville for the dedication and invited a representative or delegation for the Borough Council to join them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Before Monday night\u2019s Borough Council meeting began, Mayor Kilmartin read a proclamation declaring August 2, 2008 to be Colonel James Crowther Day in the Borough of Tyrone.
