Last week, the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library welcomed Jessica Ford Cameron as the new library director.
\nCameron, from Altoona, said she is very excited with her new position in Tyrone.
\nAfter graduating from the University of Maryland with a Master of Library Science degree, Cameron worked in the University Library and then as the Reference Librarian at Penn State Altoona for two years.
\nMost recently, she was the Library Director at the Claysburg library for two years.
\nShe may be just settling in to her new position, but Cameron says, \u201cThis place is so well run, there are only a few minor adjustments needed.\u201d
\nLooking to the future, Cameron said she wants to work on more outreach for all ages.
\n\u201cWe do a lot for the preschool age but want to get elementary and teenage programs as well,\u201d she said.
\nShe added that right now there is no \u201ccarved out\u201d area specifically for teens.
\nOne hope, to help in this area, is to acquire a Nintendo Wii for use by library patrons of all ages.
\n\u201cIn the short time I\u2019ve been here, I feel it (the library) is the center of the community,\u201d said Cameron, \u201cand that\u2019s the way it should be.\u201d
\nThe library currently provides many programs to the public.
\nStory hour is held on Wednesdays from 1 to 2 p.m. for children. To guarantee a spot, parents are asked to call the library at 684-1133 to pre-register for this event.
\nGED classes are also held at the library from 1 to 4 p.m. each Monday and Wednesday.
\nAnd of course there is the annual library concert. This year the show titled \u201cSalute to the Legends\u201d will be held April 19 at 6:30 p.m.
\n\u201cI\u2019m endlessly impressed with the library,\u201d said Cameron, \u201cwith the staff, volunteers, trustees and the community.
\n\u201cI\u2019m really happy to be here,\u201d she added.
\nThe library is open Monday, Friday and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, noon to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
