Living history programs

The Colonel Crowther Foundation will present two living history programs this coming weekend.
\nOf special interest is the civil war recruiting program that will take place in City Hotel Park Saturday morning, August 2, at 9 a.m.
\nBob Hileman, Jr., President of The Colonel Crowther Foundation said, \u201cTyrone will see an exciting reenactment of civil war recruiting on Saturday, August 2.
\n\u201cRecruiting soldiers to serve in the Union Army in 1861 was very different from recruiting efforts today\u201d, he continued.
\nThe program will begin at 8:45 a.m. with the playing of patriotic music by musicians from the 46th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Band (The Logan Guard) and the Mason\/Dixon Brass Band.
\nMike Gherrity, as well-know Tyrone citizen David Jones, will speak to the assembled citizens exhorting them to come to the defense of the Union.
\nDavid Jones began his military service to the Union as Captain of Company A and would end as Colonel commanding the 110th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers following the death of James Crowther at Chancellorsville.
\nIncident at Camp Crossman, the foundation\u2019s second living history program for the weekend, recreates a documented incident that happened at Camp Crossman in the fall of 1861.
\nNewspaper accounts have given us complete details of this incident where a soldier was wounded by a sentry who misunderstood his orders.
\nThis program will be presented in the small field adjacent to the encampment at Reservoir Park at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday August 2 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 3.
\nAn extension of the program permit people attending to follow the wounded soldier to the surgeon\u2019s tent where they will witness the medical procedures used to treat his wound.
\n\u201cI hope many of the citizens of Tyrone will visit our encampment during the weekend,\u201d\u00a0 President Hileman commented.
