{"id":1429,"date":"2008-08-11T09:43:21","date_gmt":"2008-08-11T13:43:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/v3\/?p=1429"},"modified":"2008-08-12T09:52:58","modified_gmt":"2008-08-12T13:52:58","slug":"tyrone-community-loses-great-friend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/?p=1429","title":{"rendered":"Tyrone community loses great friend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/v3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/bob-maserw.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1430\" title=\"bob-maserw\" src=\"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/v3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/bob-maserw-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/bob-maserw-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/bob-maserw.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>The Tyrone area community lost a great friend over the weekend, as Bob Maser passed away Saturday at his home.<br \/>\nHe was loved by all who knew him.<br \/>\nThroughout the years, he volunteered countless hours to the community\u00a0as a member of the Tyrone Kiwanis Club, Tyrone Area Community Organization, Tyrone Teener League, and the Tyrone Salvation Army, as well as being a member of many other organizations in the Tyrone area.<br \/>\nBob visited the Herald office on many occasions throughout the years, whether it was to conduct an interview or to pop in to say &#8220;hello&#8221;.<br \/>\nBob had an infectious\u00a0laugh and never left the office without first telling a joke or two to put a smile on everyone&#8217;s face.<br \/>\nHe could definitely be seen in the office on a Friday afternoon discussing the upcoming\u00a0Tyrone football game, and it can be said that Bob loved all Golden Eagle sports.<br \/>\nBut mostly, he derived great satisfaction\u00a0from helping others, and it was through his efforts that the Tyrone Salvation Army still has a place in the Tyrone community.<br \/>\nAfter the Tyrone Salvation Army Worship and Service Center located on 10th Street was closed in June of 2004, Bob worked day and night to keep the services of the Salvation Army here in Tyrone.<br \/>\nHis efforts brought forth the Tyrone Salvation Army Service Unit, with headquarters first at the Tyrone Social Center and then at the present location of 908 Pennsylvania Avenue.<br \/>\nThe service unit provides\u00a0those in need with clothes, winter coats, Christmas food and toys, and other services throughout the year\u00a0for all who qualify.<br \/>\nWhen he wasn\u2019t at the service unit headquarters, Bob spent hours upon hours, year after year,\u00a0manning the Salvation Army Christmas kettles at various local businesses, and everyone contributed just a little bit more when they saw it was Bob standing out in the cold by one of the kettles.<br \/>\nOne of Bob\u2019s favorite things to do when he came into the office was to go over the\u00a0long list of things he had\u00a0to do that day, most all having to do with helping other people,\u00a0and he would always say, \u201cI&#8217;m\u00a0busier now that I&#8217;m\u00a0retired than ever before,&#8221; but\u00a0by the look on his face you could tell he wouldn&#8217;t have wanted it any other way.<br \/>\nThe last time he visited\u00a0the office, he said\u00a0some kids in town had sent him cards of thanks for all that he had done throughout the years, and he started to cry because it meant so much to him. Because Bob loved to help others, the best gift in the world\u00a0to him\u00a0was knowing that he was able to have done so much, to help so many.<br \/>\nIt would be impossible to count just how many lives were touched by Bob&#8217;s volunteer efforts.
