Tyrone Junior High basketball team visited Bald Eagle Area, Tuesday, and hosted Bellefonte, Thursday and Roosevelt\u2019s Rams Friday. The Eagle\u2019s posted two victories of the three outings.
\nThe Eagle\u2019s soundly defeated Bald Eagle Area 51-32 with an all around solid team effort led by Rich Stever\u2019s 14, and Jared Templeton\u2019s 12 points, followed by Jim Ferguson, Steve Franco, and JD Dorminy with eight points each.
\nIn the Bellefonte game, the Raiders had a total of ten field goals in the contest; five of them were treys, keeping them in the game up till the end. The Eagle\u2019s had twice as many field goals, but only one three. Led by Jared Templeton\u2019s game high 20 and Jim Ferguson\u2019s nine points, they were the beneficiaries\u2019 of a double figure day of assists from Rich Stever who sliced and diced the Bellefonte defense with dribble penetration the entire game. The Eagle\u2019s defeated Bellefonte 41-31.
\nThe Roosevelt Rams rolled into town Friday and presented some tough match ups for the Eagles. One of them, 6-2 Connor Abram had ten of his game high 20 in the first four minutes of the first period as Roosevelt went out on a 12-2 run. Tyrone settled into the game however, and with less than two minutes remaining in the first half got back in the game trailing 20-16. Then entered match up problem number two, eighth grader Kenny Miller hit three treys in less than a minute pulling the claws out of the Eagles and putting the Ram\u2019s up 29-16 at the half. He finished the game with 14 points. Rich Stever led the Eagle\u2019s scoring with 13 points. The Ram\u2019s went on to soundly defeat Tyrone 60-38.
\nTyrone\u2019s B team also went two of three for the week. The Eagle\u2019s defeated BEA 39-32, Bellefonte 49-41, and lost to Roosevelt 27-36. The Eagle\u2019s were led by solid offensive efforts from Richard Crabtree. He scored 26, 24, and 21 points in the three games, and against Bellefonte lit up five three pointers in the fourth period alone.
\n\u201cRichard is only playing in three quarters of these games and putting up these numbers,\u201d said coach Stever. \u201cHe is one of the best shooters we have on the Junior High team. His success is the result of one thing. A lot of hard work and practice.\u201d
