\"\"<\/a><\/td>\nTyrone and Lewistown wrestled around and around in the Tyrone High School gymnasium on Thursday night. In the end, it was the Golden Eagles\u2019 inexperience which cost dearly in the 39-27 Lewistown triumph.
\nWith Tyrone up 27-21 following an 11-1 major decision by Eagle senior Shayne Tate at 171, the Panthers, coached by former Lewistown state champ Ken Whitsel won all of the final three matches by fall, to record the victory.
\nThe match began at 112, where Tyrone super soph A. J. Schopp garnered a 10-0 major decision over Jake Schultz. After a scoreless opening period, Schopp (14-1) notched a three-point nearfall in the second stanza and added a takedown, two stalling points and another nearfall in the third period.
\nLewistown won the next two matches, earning bonus points in both. Matt Snyder won by a 19-4 technical fall over Tyrone sophomore Chase Weaver (5-4) in 5:10 at 119, and Gage Smith pinned Robbie Sellers (3-8) in the third period at 125.
\nAt 130, Anthony Romano (12-4) used a takedown in each of the first two periods and then used a five-point move on a reversal and back points to wrap up a 9-0 win over Dion Holland. Cody Weaver (7-5) pinned Kody Hassinger quickly in 1:33 at 135, to push Tyrone back into the team lead 14-11.
\n\u201cCody wrestled aggressively from the start of his match,\u201d said Tyrone wrestling coach Blair Packer. \u201cHe went for the fall.\u201d
\nThat didn\u2019t last long, when the Eagles forfeited to Lewistown\u2019s Colton Spade, with Coach Packer moving sophomore James Weston up to 145, and away from Spade. That proved to be a good move when Weston (3-8) parlayed a first period takedown, rode Darren Mentzer for the entire middle period and had two third-period escapes for a 4-3 win to tie the team score 17-17.
\n\u201cJimmy Weston is just beginning to get some confidence in himself, but we have faith in him now,\u201d said Packer.
\nJeremy Barlett (5-7) opened up a 23-17 advantage for the Eagles by pinning Drew Wilburne late in the third quarter, after building up a 10-0 lead.
\nLewistown won by major decision at 160, when Kyler Goss downed Cody Smith (1-6) 11-1, but Tyrone increased their team lead to 27-21 when at 171, Tate (10-3) majored Severin Thierwechter. Tate opened up early to score three first-period takedowns and three back points to lead 9-2 after one period, and added his fourth takedown an escape and penalty point in the second period, while limiting Thierwechter to three escapes.
\nAnthony Noland pinned Dustin Weaver in 2:27 at 189, Steven King pinned Corey Barnhart in 0:52, at 215 and Frank Terry decked Dalaun Carroll at 285, in 4:30 to finish the dual. There was no match at 103. Lewistown had no wrestler at that weight and Tyrone ninth-grader Ronnie Garbinsky (12-1) was out with a minor concussion suffered earlier in the week in practice.
\n\u201cOverall, our kids wrestled pretty well. We are young in many spots and that is going to hurt us. Maybe had Garbinsky been in the lineup, our strategy would have been different,\u201d said Packer. \u201cWe had a couple younger kids pull through and do well for us. Both of the lighter Weavers wrestled well. Cody got us bonus points with the pin, and Chase Weaver lost to a kid who was third in the state last year, but saved a team point by not getting pinned. In a lot of matches, that might have been the difference.\u201d
\nLewistown also won the preliminary junior high match over the Eagles junior high 51-39.
\nMark McMonigal (95), Andrew Warrender (115) and Kirby Lawrence (250) won by pin, Christian Getz (122) and Kaden Hunter (75) won by forfeit, and Dylan Weston (90), Michael Sleeth (105) and Caleb Snyder (130) each won by decision.
