The Tyrone golf team moves to 4-0 on the season with two conference wins over Indian Valley and Lewistown and a non conference win over State College on Thursday.
\nTyrone golfers took to the Sinking Valley Country Club on a day you wouldn\u2019t play golf unless there was no choice. The first eight holes were played in a torrential down pour that dumped nearly 3\/4 of an inch of rain in the first two hours, before receding to a soft drizzle for the remainder of the day. The greens were squeegeed off so that the kids could at least get in nine holes, but the rain then subsided, and although conditions were still unfavorable, the match was able to be played by scoring all 18 holes.
\nTyrone was lead by steady Jimmy Ferguson, posting 41-36 for 77, followed by James Russell 47-45 and Kyle Updyke 44-48 for a pair of 92\u2019s and rounding out the scoring for the Eagles was Jordan Taylor with a 48-46 (94).
\nIn close fifth and sixth spots were Eric Loose with a 96 and freshman Lady Eagle Olivia Stever who also carded a 96.
\n\u201cThis was a pretty good day for our golf team,\u201d said Tyrone golf coach Greg Ferguson. \u201cWe scored one shot better than last week under much tougher conditions. We are still working hard on some fundamentals. We still made some high numbers on a couple of holes,, but with the conditions today, that is expected, unlike the high numbers last week when conditions were near perfect. Jordan and Kyle both finished the back nine with some difficulties, but on a positive, they were both even par through the first five holes on the back before posting 46 and 48; that\u2019s finishing 10 and 12 over their remaining our holes. The work they are putting in is showing up, they will put it together as the year goes on.
\n\u201cOlivia was really struggling with her game a month ago, and now she is posting a 96 in a down pour from the men\u2019s tees. I\u2019m excited about the direction we are going. We are a young team with very little experience. We will have tough matches over the next two weeks and we will have to do better. We will keep practicing, and see where it takes us.\u201d
\nSharing medalist honors with Jimmy Ferguson was Bald Eagle Area\u2019s only golfer Hunter Bravis. Hunter posted 37-40 =77 to share the medalist honors.
