The holiday season is here, and all community members are invited to take part in the many upcoming activities that are being planned for the Tyrone area.
\nThings get started in a grand way on Friday, November 30 at 6 p.m. with the annual tree lighting of the community Christmas tree in front of the post office in downtown Tyrone.
\nThen at 6:15 p.m., the Tyrone Yuletyme Parade will begin, and Santa Claus will arrive in town. The parade floats will be judged by the Tyrone Rotary and cash prizes awarded. If anyone is interested in participating in the parade, contact Rose Black at the Chamber at 684-0736.
\nAfter the parade on Friday, everyone is invited to visit with Santa at the Tyrone Armory for hot chocolate provided by Joshua House and cookies provided by the Women\u2019s Club of Tyrone.
\nAlso beginning the night of the parade and running through January 2, there will be a promenade of animated windows in downtown storefronts, sponsored by the Tyrone Regional Arts Council.
\nThere are several activities planned for Saturday, December 1. Beginning at 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., the Tyrone Yuletyme Christmas Celebration continues with arts and crafts, decorated trees and a Chinese auction at the Tyrone Armory. There will be lots to do for all ages at the Tyrone Armory, so don\u2019t miss this event!
\nAlso on Saturday, the Colonel Crowther Foundation is scheduled to present a \u201cCivil War Christmas\u201d from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church. This is a living history program. There will be a cookie sale beginning at 10 a.m. at the Tyrone Snyder Public Library, followed by a children\u2019s story hour from 1 to 2 p.m.
\nOn Saturday, there will also be a Breakfast With Santa event sponsored by Tyrone Colonial Courtyard and the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce at Tyrone Colonial Courtyard beginning at 10 a.m. The cost is $5 for each child, and kids two and under can enter for free. \nOn Saturday and Sunday, December 1 – 2, the Tyrone History Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the addition of a \u201cToys of Yesteryear\u201d display sponsored by the Tyrone Area Historical Society.
\nOn Monday, December 3 beginning at 6 p.m., it will be the Tyrone Hospital Development Council\u2019s 7th Annual Tree of Light Ceremony at the Tyrone Hospital. A reception and refreshments are scheduled to follow the ceremony.
\nOn December 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Tyrone Hospital Auxiliary\u2019s annual holiday tea, quilt raffle, craft sale and complimentary refreshments will be held in the hospital lobby.
\nOn December 8, Trinity Episcopal Church has scheduled a high tea to begin at 4 p.m.
\nOn December 10, beginning at 7 p.m. there will be the Tyrone Area Middle School Choral Ensemble Concert at the high school auditorium.
\nOn December 11, at 7 p.m. the Allegheny Chorale concert at the First Presbyterian Church is scheduled to be held.
\nOn December 13, beginning at 7 p.m. will be the Tyrone Area Elementary School Band and Choral concerts at the school auditorium.
\nOn December 15, from 2 to 5 p.m. \u201cChurch Tours\u201d are scheduled. Everyone is invited to tour the many beautiful and historic churches of Tyrone and experience the true meaning of Christmas.
\nOn December 16, beginning at 1 p.m. will be the Tyrone Area High School Christmas Choral Concert at the high school auditorium.
\nOn December 24, there will be several candlelight services scheduled at area churches.
