Colonial Courtyard in Tyrone will host a family caregiver mini series on Alzheimer\u2019s during the month of October.
\nThe presentations will be held every Tuesday this month, beginning October 9, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
\nThe program will be presented by The Alzheimer\u2019s Association.
\nNext week, the program will focus on a medical overview, \u201cAlzheimer\u2019s Disease and Dimentia\u201d.
\nOn Tuesday, October 16 the topic will be the stages of Alzheimer\u2019s and planning for the future.
\nThe program will center around effective communication and challenging behaviors on Tuesday, October 23.
\nThe final night will be Tuesday, October 30 and the discussion topic will be \u201cCaring for the Caregiver\u201d.

\nAlzheimer\u2019s disease is a progressive and fatal brain disease.
\nAccording to the Alzheimer\u2019s Association, \u201cMore than 5 million Americans now have Alzheimer\u2019s disease.
\n\u201cIt destroys brain cells, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior severe enough to affect work, lifelong hobbies or social life. Alzheimer\u2019s gets worse over time and it is fatal.\u201d
\nToday, Alzheimer\u2019s is the seventh-leading cause of death in the United States.
\nThe Alzheimer\u2019s Association website states it is \u201cthe most common form of dementia, a general term for the loss of memory and other intellectual abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life.
\n\u201cCurrently there is no current cure, but there are treatments for symptoms.\u201d
