Tyrone Hospital will offer a free osteoporosis screening on Saturday, October 6 at the Tyrone Rotary Club\u2019s Farm City Day. The screening will be provided from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on a first come, first served basis.\u2011
\nThe screening will be performed by Ms. Rebecca McCully, Director of Radiology at Tyrone Hospital. The screening is appropriate for women and men age 18 or older. \u2011
\nMcCully said those who have the screening will be asked to have a seat and then will need to place one bare foot onto a machine. The machine uses ultrasound technology to provide basic information regarding bone density.\u2011The screening is non-invasive, painless, and takes just a few minutes to complete. Participants will receive their results right after the screening is completed.
\nMcCully said the purpose of the screening is to provide the most basic information about a person\u2019s bone health.
\n\u201cIf we see screening results that vary from what is generally considered normal, we advise that person to consult with their family physician for an evaluation. The screening is not intended to replace physician care.\u201d
