The Tyrone girls tennis dropped a 6-1 match to Central at the Clay Avenue courts on Thursday afternoon.
\nIf just a few games could have gone the other way, the Lady Eagles would have made it very interesting. Despite the apparent wipeout in the final score, the Tyrone girls played a tough match.
\nIn Number two singles, Katelyn Piper and B-A freshman Emily Tompkins played an extremely competitive first game that lasted almost an hour, before Piper prevailed 7-5 and then took the second game 6-1.
\nAt the Number Four singles, Amy Lewis lost her first game to Katlyn Hammond 6-2, but rallied to win the second game 6-3 and force a super tiebreaker, which Hammond won 10-5.
\nThen, in the Number Five singles, Laura Thompson gave Tyrone their only win with another tough match over Lea Stiles. Stiles took the first game 6-4, but Thompson won the second game in a tiebreaker 7-6 and again in the super tiebreaker 10-5.
\n\u201cIt sound like we got thumped,\u201d said Tyrone tennis coach Mike Hampton, \u201cthose singles matches could have gone the other way and then the doubles would have meant a lot more and might have been different as well. We competed, and Central just came out on top.\u201d
