The Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly breakfast at Joe\u2019s Place tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.
\nSpeaking at the breakfast will be Machel Drahnak, Tobacco Program Coordinator for the Blair County Human Services Office.
\nMachel has been involved with Blair County\u2019s tobacco control program at the Human Services Office since October of 2005. She is trained to facilitate the American Lung Association\u2019s \u201cFreedom From Smoking\u201d program, which assists tobacco users to quit using tobacco products.
\nThis program can be offered free of charge in community settings or at worksites.
\nMachel is also chairperson of Blair County\u2019s tobacco awareness coalition, BREATHE (Blair County Reacts with Efforts Against Tobacco Hype and its Effects). The coalition has been providing tobacco prevention and cessation programs, and advocating for smoke-free environments since May of 2000.
\nThe topic of Machel\u2019s speech will be the \u201cClean Indoor Air Act.\u201d
\nAct 27 of 2008, Clean Indoor Air Act (CIAA), which will be implemented tomorrow, regulates smoking in public places and workplaces in Blair County and across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
\nMachel will provide information on the Act, who must comply, how to apply for an exemption; followed by a question and answer session.
\nThe Chamber appreciates reservations, but walk-ins are welcomed. Tickets are $6 in advance or at the door.
