\"\"<\/a>The Tyrone Church of the Brethren, for the second year in a row, hosted a Summer Praise Program aimed at teaching area children songs of praise, choral skills, stage presence and an appreciation of worship. The additional objective was to raise money for the Tyrone Police Department to use in their drug prevention efforts.
\nLast year, the program, which was the brain child of Kristen Rhodes, the Church of the Brethren\u2019s Music Minister, raised a little over $1,600 towards those efforts. This year, the goal was to raise $2,000. That goal was, in fact, surpassed in grand style. After all the sponsors, advertisers and individual contributors had graciously supported the program, the total raised came to $2,301.52.
\nThe concert, which was held on the evening of August 26, was well attended and the children\u2019s efforts were well received. Some of the songs performed were \u2018Lifesaving 101\u2019, \u2018Bubbling Joy\u2019 and \u2018Take A Stand\u2019. And in fact the Tyrone Church of the Brethren, the sponsors, advertisers and contributors, and the children did take a stand.
\nDuring the midpoint, Officer Franks presented a letter from Chief Beachem and then answered questions that the concert goers had about the department\u2019s drug prevention efforts and what local citizens can do.
\nThe Adult Praise Team of the church also lent their talents singing \u2018We Can Make A Difference\u2019. They also joined the children for the closing number \u2018This Is Our God\u2019. A wonderful time was had by all.
\nMuch laughter was also shared that night due to the presence of a \u2018donut\u2019. If you missed it, be assured there will be a concert next year.
\nThe check for $2,301.52 was presented to Chief Beachem at the Tyrone Church of the Brethren on September 11. The Chief has revealed that the department is hoping to use the funds in conjunction with other funding to purchase and train a drug\/patrol dog and train an officer to handle the canine.
