New course records highlighted the Altoona Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning.
\nCentral Cambria\u2019s Carly Seymour broke her own previous record from 2006 by 26 seconds to lead the Lady Red Devils to the crown. Making a family affair of the girls race, Carly\u2019s younger sisters Kendall Seymour finished fourth overall and Kelsey Seymour finished fifth.
\nCarly Seymour ran the five-kilometer course in 17:27.9, finishing 1:29 minutes in front of the second place runner, Hempfield\u2019s Amber Valimont and nearly two minutes ahead of third place finisher Susanna Sullivan of George Mason High School in Virginia.
\nThe race featured more than 700 varsity and junior varsity runners from across the state and was run through the fields and hills surrounding Altoona\u2019s Logan Elementary School in Logan Township. Bishop McCort was second, Oakland Catholic was third and Altoona was fourth in the girls race.
\nEmily Stapleton, a freshman from Bellwood-Antis, was 24th with a time of 21:31.6, and freshman Ashley Ford of Tyrone, was 100th in 23:526.
\nIn the boys race, Bishop McCort\u2019s Jim Spissak also topped his own mark to set a new record in 16:13.8. Altoona won the team title for the boys, but had no runners in the top 10. Chris Fischer led a group of four Altoona boys in the top 25, with a 13th place in 17:15.1.
\nTyrone freshman Rich Stever was the area\u2019s top runner in the boys division with a 27th place in 17:49.3, and Bellwood-Antis senior Ben Hatch was 31st in 17:51.7.
\nThe Eagles finished 16th out of 27 boys teams, with 475 points, while the Blue Devils were 18th with a team total of 505.
\nTyrone junior Dustin Elder was 49th in 18:15.3 and sophomore teammate Nathan Kruis was 85th in 19:16.1.
