Golfers from around the region are being invited to take part in a milestone tournament on Wednesday, September 5 at Scotch Valley Country Club to benefit homeless animals at the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.
\nShelter officials are marking the 10th anniversary of the tournament this year.
\n\u201cWe are particularly grateful to Dan Lawruk who established this great fundraiser a decade ago and has stuck with it, constantly improving it and making it fun as well as challenging,\u201d said Dave Hopkins, CPHS Director of Fundraising\/Public Relations.
\n\u201cWe also thank the many familiar golfers who have come out year after year to support us and test their skills on the links.\u201d
\nAgain this year, a skillful golfer may be taking home a brand new car if they\u2019re able to score a hole-in-one during play.
\nTournament organizer Dan Lawruk said fees for the event include golf and a cart, refreshments on the course, lunch, an awards banquet with hors d\u2019oeuvres, locker room facilities, a long drive prize, closest to the pin prize and a putting contest. In addition, the event will offer many door prizes.
\nMajor sponsors of the benefit outing include M & T Bank, Pepsi, Subway and S & T Bank with dozens of other area businesses contributing.
\nThe cost is $440 entry fees for a 4-person team. Individuals can sign up for $110. For $25, non-participants can attend the awards ceremonies with hors\u2019d\u2019oeuvres.
\nThe event will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 and a scramble format.

\nIn other news, CPHS is always looking for new members.
\nThe shelter has about 1,200 dues paying members at present, and CPHS officials said membership fees help to defray the cost of operations.
\nCPHS is currently trying to raise awareness of the need for the shelter, and it is asking current members to renew their membership.
\n\u201cAnd, we hope folks will not only renew now \u2013 even if they\u2019re not due \u2013 but ask a friend, family member, relative or co-worker to join as well. By doubling our membership, we can afford to improve our services\/care not only to our homeless animals, but to our customers as well,\u201d Hopkins, CPHS Director of Fundraising\/Public Relations, recently said.
\nHe also suggested giving a CPHS membership as a birthday present, holiday gift or retirement offering.
\nMemberships are $20 for an individual, $15 for a senior and $30 for a family.
