At 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, Trinity Episcopal Church, at the corner of Washington Avenue and Ninth Street in Tyrone, will host A Hymn Festival, Highlighting The Earthly Life of Christ.
\nMethodist Minister Norman Huff will guide participants with brief Bible readings about Christ\u2019s life from the Bethlehem Manger, to the Wilderness Temptation, to Jerusalem\u2019s Palm Sunday Parade, to the Upper Room, to the Cross of Calvary, to the Empty Tomb, to the Ascension Clouds, and to The Gathering At Pentecost. After he reads about Christ\u2019s Wilderness Temptation, Reverend Huff will sing Geoffrey O\u2019Hara\u2019s beloved 1937 vocal solo, I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked.
\nHuff\u2019s daughter, Debra Huff Estright, conductor of Tyrone\u2019s Allegheny Chorale, will lead the audience in a hymn sing that will parallel the scriptural themes of Reverend Huff\u2019s Bible readings about Christ\u2019s earthly life. To celebrate His resurrection, Estright will sing Graham and Lovland\u2019s hugely popular 2003 hit entitled You Raise Me Up.
\nPresbyterian organist Richard Merryman will provide a hymn accompaniment on the historic 13-rank Estey Pipe Organ, built in 1956 by the Estey Pipe Organ Company of Brattleboro, Vermont, at a cost of $12,000. Merryman\u2019s accompaniments will seek to enhance the spiritual atmosphere of the scripture and songs offered by Huff and Estright.
\nTyrone baseball stars James and Thomas Coleman, who were baptized in Trinity Church in 1980, will serve as honorary hosts and ushers. A food and fellowship hour will follow this event in Wilson Parish Hall.
