Blue Devil girls and boys teams ran away with the first place trophy’s as athletes gear up for the push to states hoping to peak at the right time.
“This is the last meet of the regular season before district this coming Tuesday,” Tyrone’s Coach Yaniello said. “It was a very hot day that may have hurt some of the distance races times but a good day for everyone else. In fact it was a very good day as the girls and boys broke 12 meet records on the day. Bellwood-Antis and Tyrone athletes were responsible for breaking eight of the 12 meet records.”
Bellwood boys team easily out pointed runner-up P-O 177 to 781⁄2, picking up right where they left off winning the prestigious West Central Coaches Meet last Friday.
Superman Brandon Pruznak broke two meet records (200-22.72), Long Jump (21-8 3/4), while teammates Ben Hatch (800-2:02.78) and Ricky Shawley (Pole Vault-13-6) also rewrote the records in their specialties. Pruznak also won the 400 and Hatch was victorious in the 1600. The Blue Devils won two of three relays winning MAC all-star status in the 1600 and 3200 relays. Brandon Pruznak was honored as the Outstanding Boys Runner.
“Overall, this was a really great team effort. We are blessed to have the kids and talent that we have,” said B-A boys coach Nick Lovrich. “The guys have bought into the idea of team in front of individual goals. We are scoring in a lot events. Hopefully we are peaking at the right time and all the hard work the kids put in will payoff next Tuesday at the district meet.”
The Golden Eagle boys picked up MAC all-star honors winning the 400 relay breaking the meet record held by last years state qualifying Tyrone team. Team members were Shane Emigh, Larry Glace, Shane Tate, and Johnny Franco. Tyrone welcomes back Ethan Etters, who won the Triple Jump with a personal best of 41-5. Ben Ingle was solid placing 2nd in the 800 and 1600.
“We were missing a few of our athletes due to a school function and injury to standout pole vaulter Phil Kreckel,” stated coach Yaniello. “I thought we performed well in most areas.”
The Lady Blue Devil girls won five events to get a bit of revenge over regular season champions Philipsburg-Osceola 151 to 134 and got a meet record breaking performance from their 400 relay team (52.33).
