The Golden Eagle thinclads have weathered all the storms with no postponed meets to remain undefeated on the season at 4-0.
The Golden Eagles out-pointed Juniata Valley 98 to 52, while the Lady Eagles lost another heartbreaker to the Juniata Valley girls 81–69.
Tyrone boys won 14 of the 18 events and scored huge numbers on the track outscoring the Hornet runners 63 to 27. Golden Eagle Jumpers won all the jumps to lead the field. Ben Ingle (1600, 800, 1600 relay) ran a sub five minute mile and won 3 1st places.), Phil Kreckel (Pole Vault, 400 Relay, 1600 Relay), Shane Emigh (Long Jump, 400 Relay), Ross Black (110 and 300 Hurdles, 1600 Relay) won 3 events. John Franco (100, 400 Relay), TJ Albright (3200 and 1600 Relay), Ethan Nulton (400, 3200 Relay), and Dustin Elder (3200, 3200 Relay) won two events.
“Our jumpers are coming along,” Coach Yaniello said. Freshman Levi Reihart, Robbie Hopkins, sophomore Larry Glace, Kyle Updike, and newcomer Shane Emigh have been fantastic and will continue to improve.
In the girls meet the Lady Eagles won 10 of the 18 events but were missing one key girl due to illness that maybe could have won it for the Lady Eagles.
Sarah Cox has emerged as a force in the field events winning all three throws and had a PR in the Shot Put. “Sarah continues to improve in her events,” Yaniello said. She put the shot over a foot farther than her previous best in terrible weather conditions.
Liz Tepsic (100 LH, 300 IH, Long and Triple Jumps) continued to lead the Lady Eagles winning 4 individual events. “Liz ran her best 100 hurdle race of the season with a strong wind in her face,” Yaniello said. She ran hard between the hurdle and stayed in line. Liz also hit over 16 feet in the long jump for the first time this season.
Rachel Emigh (Pole Vault-100 Dash), was a double winner and Kayla Patton won the 400 meter dash. “Kayla had so much success as a freshman last year placing 4th in districts and won almost all the sprints during every meet,” Coach Yaniello said. She has been dealing with nagging injuries and we will work her back slowly. We want to take it slow with her and wait for warm weather to prevent any further setbacks.
Next up for the Tyrone thinclads is a home meet with Bellwood-Antis on Thursday at 3:45 p.m..
BOYS
Tyrone 98 Juniata Valley 52
100 Dash-1.
