The Tyrone Lady Eagles softball team traveled to Wingate on Tuesday for a battle with perennial District 6 power Bald Eagle Area.
\n The game started with Ashley Pennabaker grounding out to shortstop, Kim Cherry striking out and Megan Turiano grounding out to the pitcher in the top half of the first for Tyrone.
\nIn the bottom of the first BEA scored five times. Cortney Switzer walked, Ashley McClain had a single and then Lauryn Weaver hit one out over the left field fence to make the score 3-0. Brooke Klinefelter walked, Lady Eagle starter Brooke Garbinsky struck out Karley Riser, and Lindsay Confer and Whitney Gindol walked to load the bases. Cara Becker had a single to drive in a run and with the bases still loaded Kasey Corl walked to bring in another run. Cortney Switzer struck out and Ashley McClain grounded out to shortstop to end the inning.
\n\u201cThe first inning set the tone for the day,\u201d said Tyrone softball coach Lois Loncher, \u201cand it was a hole that we could not get out of.
\nKim Cherry broke up Becker\u2019s no-hit bid in the fourth inning with a base hit in the hole between shortstop and third. Becker struck out seven and walked one in getting the win.
\nBrooke Garbinsky struck out two and walked eight, and Megan Turiano fanned five and walked four for the Lady Eagles.
\n\u201cWe did some good things and other things so-so,\u201d explained Loncher. \u201cWe did make some contact and forced them to field the ball.\u201d
\nTyrone plays Penns Valley this afternoon at Penns Valley. This is a make up game from last week and will start at 4:30 p.m.
