{"id":39405,"date":"2007-02-21T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-02-21T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/v3\/?p="},"modified":"2007-02-21T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2007-02-21T00:00:00","slug":"Community-Calendar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/?p=39405","title":{"rendered":"Community Calendar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jeremiah People to perform<br \/>\nThe Jeremiah People, America\u2019s premier Christian musical drama group will be performing at New Life Worship Center, Exit 39, Altoona, on February 21 at 7 p.m.<br \/>\nFor 30 years, the Jeremiah People have been on the cutting edge of Christian music theater, entertaining audiences throughout the United States with the best in Christian drama and music for the entire family.<br \/>\nComprised of five to eight actors\/musicians\/cast members, the Jeremiah People continue their tradition of laughter, tears and relevant ministry using the very best in drama, music and testimony.<br \/>\nSo, gather up the family, bring along the neighbors and prepare for an evening of fun-filled comedy, life changing drama, hope-inspiring music and heart-felt ministry.<\/p>\n<p>Ash Wednesday service<br \/>\nThe Ash Wednesday service of Wesley and Christ United Methodist Churches will be on Wednesday, February 21, at 7 p.m. at Wesley Church on Logan Avenue.<br \/>\nThe service will feature the Imposition of Ashes.<br \/>\nPastor Barry Neal of Christ United Methodist Church, will bring the message as well as the choirs of both Wesley and Christ Church participating. The public is welcome to attend.<br \/>\nThis service is the community service of the Tyrone Cluster of the United Methodist Churches.<\/p>\n<p>TACM announces Lenten luncheon schedule<br \/>\nTyrone Area Cooperative Ministries (TACM) has announced its Lenten luncheon series to be held each Wednesday, February 21 through March 28, in preparation of the celebration of Easter.<br \/>\nThe Church of the Good Shepherd will once again host the Lenten luncheons beginning at noon each week with special music by Joan Smith.<br \/>\nThe speaker for the February 21 luncheon is the Rev. A. Michele Somerville, pastor of the Bald Eagle and Grazierville United Methodist Churches. The luncheon will be prepared by members of Christ United Methodist Church.<br \/>\nOn February 28 the message will presented by the Rev. Barry Neal of Christ United Methodist Church. The luncheon will be prepared by members of Wesley United Methodist Church.<br \/>\nThe March 7 program is in charge of the Rev. Patricia Gable, pastor of the Port Matilda United Methodist Church. The meal will be prepared by members of the First Presbyterian Church.<br \/>\nThe Rev. Joseph T. Orr of St. Matthew Catholic Church will be the speaker at the March 14 luncheon. The meal will be prepared by Quest Haven.<br \/>\nThe Rev. Susan H. Yatta of the First English Lutheran Church will bring the message for the March 14 Lenten luncheon. Dinner will be served by members of the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church.<br \/>\nThe cost of Lenten luncheon is $5 and persons planning to attend should notify their church office by Monday of each week. Also, persons attending are encouraged to bring along canned goods to be given to the Tyrone Food Bank.<br \/>\nMoney realized from Lenten luncheons will benefit the Breaking Bread Ministries of the Church of the Good Shepherd.<\/p>\n<p>TAHS class of 1955<br \/>\nThe Tyrone Area High School class of 1955 will hold its monthly get together on Wednesday, February 21 at 12:30 p.m. at Joe\u2019s Place in Vail.<br \/>\nClassmates, spouses and friends are invited.<\/p>\n<p>Fish fry\/buffet dinners<br \/>\nThe Warriors Mark United Methodist Church will host a series of fish fry\/buffet dinners during Lent. The dinners will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on February 23 and March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 with varying menus. Children four and under eat for free. The Warriors Mark UM Church is handicapped accessible. Anyone with questions can contact the church office at 632-6906.<br \/>\nFriday fish dinners<br \/>\nA local Friday night tradition returns thanks to the Tyrone Community Partnership and Wesley United Methodist Church.<br \/>\nFish, macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, dessert and beverage will be served at the Fellowship Hall of Wesley United Methodist Church for four Fridays during Lent.<br \/>\nEat in or take out. Tickets will be available at the door. Dinners will be held Fridays from 5 to 7 p.m. on February 23 and March 2, 23 and 30.<br \/>\nChildren under five eat for free.<\/p>\n<p>Annual Mission\u2019s Convention<br \/>\nFirst Assembly of God, Tyrone, will be having their annual Mission\u2019s Convention February 25-28 with four different missionaries on four nights. Services are at 6:30 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday and the annual Mission\u2019s banquet is Wednesday at 6 p.m. with the missionary speaking at 7 p.m.<br \/>\nEveryone is welcome to come and hear these missionary speakers.<\/p>\n<p>B-A Historical Society<br \/>\nThe February meeting of the Bellwood-Antis Historical Society will be held on February 26 at 7 p.m. at the Bellwood Public Library.<br \/>\nJodi Wallace will talk on birds. The public is invited.<\/p>\n<p>TYBA final registration<br \/>\nTyrone Youth Baseball Association  will hold final registration for major and minor baseball leagues on Tuesday, February 27 at the Bull Pen Restaurant.<br \/>\nAny boy or girl born between may 1, 1994 and April 30, 2002 is eligible to play. Those registering must have an original copy of their birth certificate.<br \/>\nThose who did not turn in last year\u2019s uniform are asked to bring it to registration.<br \/>\nAnyone with questions can contact Peggy Snyder, player agent, at 684-9604 or Jerry Shetler, President, at 684-2567.<\/p>\n<p>Church of the Good Shepherd youth breakfasts<br \/>\nAll sixth through 12th graders in the community are welcome to attend Church of the Good Shepherd\\&#8217;s annual \\&#8221;Lenten breakfasts\\&#8221;. The Breakfast will be held each Wednesday until Easter, beginning February 28. Breakfast will be served at 7 a.m., and is held in the church social hall and includes lots of delicious home-cooking, along with a short time of reflection led by teens from different youth groups in the community. If you have questions, or if your youth group would like to help lead a \\&#8221;reflection time\\&#8221;, call the church office at 684-2472.<\/p>\n<p>Class of 1952<br \/>\nThe Tyrone High School class of 1952 will hold a luncheon at Joe\u2019s Place, Vail, on Thursday, March 1 at noon. All classmates and guests are welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Medication check-ups offered at Tyrone Senior<br \/>\nCommunity Center<br \/>\nBlair Senior Services, Inc. and Tyrone Hospital are co-sponsoring \u201cMedication Check-Ups\u201d at the Tyrone Senior Community Center on Thursday, March 8. The private, individual \u201cmedication check-ups\u201d will be provided by Mr. Dan Irvin, PharmD, a pharmacist at Tyrone Hospital. The \u201ccheck-ups\u201d will include a review of prescribed medications, checking for drug interactions, review of medication precautions, medication side effects, and the effects of any over the counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal remedies.<br \/>\nThe \u201cmedication check-ups\u201d are open to individuals age 60 or older as well as family members or other caregivers who assist with medication. Appointments are required and a limited number of appointments are available. To make an appointment for a medication check-up call Tyrone Hospital at 684-6348. The Tyrone Senior Center is located at 505 West 3rd Street in Tyrone.<br \/>\nPreschool vision screening<br \/>\nPreschool vision screenings will be held March 9 at Tyrone Presbyterian Preschool at 9:15 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>NARFE meeting<br \/>\nThe National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 328, met February 9 at noon at King\u2019s Restaurant, Altoona, for lunch and a business meeting.<br \/>\nIt was reported that the annual Christmas dinner in Bellwood will be held as planned on December 14. The cost was also established. Helen Hanlon made a reservation at American Legion Park, Hollidaysburg, for the August picnic.<br \/>\nThe next meeting will be at noon at King\u2019s on Friday, March 9.
