Genealogical Society<br \/>\nThe Blair County Genealogical Society will hold their monthly membership meeting at the Roller Hojeth Memorial Library, 431 Scotch Valley Road, Hollidaysburg, Thursday, February 15, 2007 at 7 p.m.<br \/>\nRob Wilson will be the speaker for the evening. The topic will be \u201cInterpreting Tax Assessment Lists and Returns\u201d.<br \/>\nEarly Tax Lists are a treasure trove of information. The presentation covers: basic tax laws, tax collection procedures, types of tax lists, how to extract and interpret what is contained in the lists from a genealogical perspective, where to find tax lists, how to organize the extracted information, how to add information to your family tree about the lives of your ancestors. There will be handouts and several case studies.<br \/>\nRob has transcribed over 20,000 tax entries from Huntingdon County, in preparation for a new book that should be completed this spring. He has been doing genealogy for the better part of ten years, with a focus the last three years in transcribing tax lists. The program is free and open to the public.<br \/>\nSpaghetti dinner<br \/>\nDance Fusion will hold a spaghetti dinner on Friday, February 16  at Wesley United Methodist Church. Take out from 4 to 5 p.m. or eat in from 5 to 7 p.m.<br \/>\nThe menu includes spaghetti, meatball, applesauce, breadstick, salad, dessert and drinks.<br \/>\nSpecial events include a 50\/50 raffle, penny raffle, silent auction and performances by the Dance Fusion competition team.<br \/>\nCall 684-1100 for more information.<\/p>\n<p>Women\u2019s Day<br \/>\nEmmanuel Baptist Church of Tyrone will be hosting a Women\u2019s Day with the theme, Relationships, on Saturday, February 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.<br \/>\nThis will be a day of fun, fellowship and growth.<br \/>\nThere will be a time of worship, a large group session with Julia Wiley as the main speaker, breakout sessions, a skit, lunch and more.<br \/>\nSome of the breakout sessions may include: a craft, finances, parenting, daily quiet times, canning, etc.<br \/>\nPlease call Sarah at 684-1001 or Julia at 684-3882 for more information or to register. There is no fee, however there will be a donation jar for anyone who would like to help with the cost of food.<\/p>\n<p>Class of 1950<br \/>\nTHS class of 1950 will hold their monthly luncheon meetings at Joe\u2019s Place in Bald Eagle, Thursday, February 18 at noon.<br \/>\nClasses, spouses and friends are cordially invited.<\/p>\n<p>Allegheny Chorale extends date for new members.<br \/>\nAllegheny Chorale will be accepting new members through February 20. The group meets at the Tyrone Area High School chorus room each Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.<br \/>\nAllegheny Chorale is open to anyone. They are looking for men, women and senior high students who just love to sing. There are no auditions.<\/p>\n<p>Prayer Shawl Ministry<br \/>\nJoin in making prayer shawls for those in need. The meeting will be Saturday, February 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Tyrone Church of the Brethren, located at the corner of Adams Avenue and 18th Street.<br \/>\nCall Ellie with questions at 684-1771.<\/p>\n<p>Annual Mission\u2019s Convention<br \/>\nFirst Assembly of God, Tyrone, will be having their annual Mission\u2019s Convention February 25-28 with four different missionaries on four nights. Services are at 6:30 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday and teh annual Mission\u2019s banquet is Wednesday at 6 p.m. with the missionary speaking at 7 p.m.<br \/>\nEveryone is welcome to come and hear these missionary speakers.<\/p>\n<p>Medication check-ups offered at Tyrone Senior<br \/>\nCommunity Center<br \/>\nBlair Senior Services, Inc. and Tyrone Hospital are co-sponsoring \u201cMedication Check-Ups\u201d at the Tyrone Senior Community Center on Thursday, March 8. The private, individual \u201cmedication check-ups\u201d will be provided by Mr. Dan Irvin, PharmD, a pharmacist at Tyrone Hospital. The \u201ccheck-ups\u201d will include a review of prescribed medications, checking for drug interactions, review of medication precautions, medication side effects, and the effects of any over the counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal remedies.<br \/>\nThe \u201cmedication check-ups\u201d are open to individuals age 60 or older as well as family members or other caregivers who assist with medication. Appointments are required and a limited number of appointments are available.<br \/>\nTo make an appointment for a medication check-up call Tyrone Hospital at 684-6348. The Tyrone Senior Center is located at 505 West 3rd Street in Tyrone.<\/p>\n<p>Preschool vision screening<br \/>\nPreschool vision screenings will be held March 9 at Tyrone Presbyterian Preschool at 9:15 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Olde fashioned hymn sing<br \/>\nFirst Assembly of God, Tyrone, will be presenting another \u201cOlde Fashioned Hymn Sing\u201d on Sunday, March 25 at 6:30 p.m.<br \/>\nAs always, some of the best in local gospel music talent will be featured. <\/p>\n<p>Plant sale<br \/>\nBellwood-Antis Farm Show annual plant sale will be held May 12 through May 26 at the Bellwood Fire Hall, including hanging baskets, planters, flats and vegetables.<\/p>\n<p>2007-08 registration now open<br \/>\nThe Warriors Mark United Methodist Church announced 2007-08 registration is now open. The church offers a program for three, four and five-year-olds to attend class three days a week. Classes are held from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.<br \/>\nCall 632-6906 for more information or to obtain a registration packet.<\/p>\n<p>Public walking<br \/>\nPublic walking at the Tyrone High School has once again started for the winter season. Walkers are invited to walk Monday through Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be no walking when school is not in session. Running is not permitted. Children must be supervised. Rubber-tired strollers only.<\/p>\n<p>Master Beekeeper<br \/>\nMaster Beekeeper will make educational and informative presentations to a class or group on honeybees and beekeeping. For more information, call 684-1783.<br \/>\nSingles 45 Plus<br \/>\nSingles 45 Plus meets every third Tuesday of the month. Interested individuals are invited to come for a meal and to socialize. Those attending would be responsible for their dinner, drinks or desserts.<br \/>\nMeetings are held at King\u2019s Restaurant, 6th Avenue and 31st Street.<\/p>\n<p>Inkjet cartridge collection<br \/>\nWesley United Methodist Church, 1200 Logan Avenue in Tyrone, is now collecting empty inkjet cartridges for recycling. Cartridges can be brought to the church during office hours (weekdays 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.) and deposited in the collection bin.<br \/>\nSimply place the old cartridge in a plastic sandwich bag and deposit it in the collection bin. Most businesses simply throw their empty cartridges in the garbage so check at work to see if they would donate their would-be garbage.<br \/>\nNo large laser cartridges are accepted with this program and will not fit through the holes on the collection box.<br \/>\nRecycling inkjet cartridges has a positive impact on the environment.<br \/>\nConsider the following: nearly one million inkjets are thrown into landfills every day. Less than five percent of the cartridges produced are recycled. It takes 1,000 years for the plastic to decompose.<br \/>\nQuestions about the program can be directed to the church office at 684-3341.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Citizens<br \/>\nThe Warriors Mark Senior Citizens meet every first and third Thursday of the month at the Warriors Mark Firehall. Come eat, play bingo (first Thurs.) and socialize with other seniors. Reservations for lunch must be made one week before the meeting, by calling Marion Shultzaberger at 684-4878.<\/p>\n<p>T.O.P.S.<br \/>\nT.O.P.S. (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) meets at the Bellwood-Antis Public Library on Monday nights, starting at 6:30 p.m. It is a friendly atmosphere, an awesome support group, and all weigh ins are very private. Individuals are welcome to attend the meetings.
