\nOn Wednesday evening, at Tyrone, the Mounties opened the dual with a pin at 112, when Barry Shoemaker nailed Donnie Hunter (1-6) in 2:26 for a fast 6-0 lead.
\nTyrone got half of that back at 119, on a Tyler Poorman 7-2 win over Josh Barnhart.
\n\u201cI think that win by Tyler Poorman was the treat of the night,\u201d said Tyrone coach Blair Packer. \u201cI think in the beginning that kid was trying to intimidate him and it didn\u2019t look good at first. Then Tyler kind of took control and didn\u2019t give up.\u201d
\nPoorman (3-6) shook off several attempts by Barnhart and grabbed a 2-0 first-period lead with a takedown at the buzzer. Barnhart scored a takedown to begin the middle period, but Poorman escaped and added a takedown in each of the last two periods for a solid 7-2 win.
\n\u201cWe knew we had no one at 140, and they had no wrestler at 125,\u201d explained Packer. \u201cSo, we inserted Cody Weaver (3-4) at 125, and moved T. J. Albright up to 130, Anthony Romano to 135 and Josh Miller to 140 to close the gap in there.\u201d
\nAlbright (8-5) took Kurt McCamley down early and added a pair of nearfall points for the early 4-0 lead, To begin the second period and T. J. wrapped up a cradle for the pin in 3:30 to stretch the Eagles\u2019 team lead to 15-6.
\nAt 135, Mike Gray grabbed a 3-2 win for the Mounties, although it appeared Romano (2-4) had a takedown at the edge of the mat as time ran out. Following a scoreless opening stanza, Gray escaped and got a takedown, before Romano escaped for a 3-1 deficit for the Eagle junior. Romano narrowed the score to 3-2 and seemed to pull the win out, but was denied by referee Bernie Chatman, who made several dubious calls during the dual.
\n\u201cI felt in Romano\u2019s match we could have had a win,\u201d said Packer. \u201cI thought their kid\u2019s hands were on the mat, we were behind him. I just don\u2019t see any reason why we didn\u2019t get a takedown.\u201d
\nIn a battle of Joshes, Philipsburg-Osceola\u2019s Josh Fryberger, a senior, used two takedowns, a nearfall and an escape to double up Tyrone sophomore Josh Miller (4-6) 8-4, at 140.
\nTyrone put together a fourpack between 145 and 171 to increase the team lead to 33-12.
\nFirst, Jeremy Barlett (2-8) overcame a 2-1 first-period deficit with a pair of reversals and a penalty point in the second period for a 6-4 triumph at 145, over Ethan Greenawalt. Then, Jacob Smerekar (8-3) decked Chad Husted in 3:06 at 152. Smerekar was in control, after using two first-period takedowns and three back points for a 7-1 lead after one period, and escaping and scoring another takedown before getting the fall. At 160, Shayne Tate (8-5) rode a third-period takedown to a 6-5 win over Cory Shimmel. Tate opened a 4-2 lead in the first period on two takedowns, but needed the third-period score when Shimmel added two escapes and a penalty point in the third period. Finally, at 171, Justin Schopp (9-4) made quick work of Chris Minarchick, opening the match with a takedown and working for the pin at the 1:30 mark.
\n\u201cI thought 152, 160 and 171 would all be important bouts. We needed a pin at 152, and a good win at 160,\u201d explained Packer. \u201cAs it turned out, Tate came out and took command right away by taking the kid down a couple times. I think that makes a difference. You\u2019re aggressive, going after it, not sitting back waiting for the other guy to shoot.\u201d
\nBo Reifer won by a 18-2 tech fall over Donnie Conrad (6-5) at 189, Dimitri Sidorick pinned Brady Williams (3-4) in 1:12 at 215, and the Eagles forfeited to Mike Horton at 285 to close the score to 33-29.
\nAll sensational freshman A. J. Schopp had to do to for the Eagles to win the dual for the second straight year over the Mounties was not lose by more than seven points in his match at 103, against Nick Gurol.
\nSchopp (13-1) opened the scoring with a takedown and two sets of nearfalls, worth five back points, added a five-point move on a takedown and nearfall in the middle stanza, then wrapped up a 15-0 tech fall with three more back points in the third period.
\nTyrone travels to Mount Union for a match today.

\nTyrone rallied to bomb Philipsburg-Osceola 52-38 in the junior high dual prior to the varsity match.
\nThe Little Mounties opened up a 24-6 advantage in the first five weights, after starting the match at 165, but Tyrone outscored their foes 46-14 the rest of the way to pick up the victory.
\nDylan Weston (80), Ronnie Garbinsky (95), James Weston (122) and Brock Noll (145) won by pin, Zach Knable (155) won by forfeit, Mark McMonagle (85) picked up a 12-0 major decision, and Tyler Osterhout (90), Chase Weaver (105), Doug Rudy (130), and Jeremy Miller (138) won decisions.
