Although the Blue Devils had been involved in two tournaments this was their first dual action, due to the Bellwood-Antis football team playing all the way to the PIAA Eastern Final. There were some fine individual efforts, but the Blue Devils showed that a lack of practice time for the football players was a problem that refused to go away. Robert Shomo pinned Kris Morder at heavyweight to secure a 45-33 Glendale victory.<br \/>\nGlendale, coached by B-A grad Bill Damiano, opened up a 24-0 lead to begin the match, collecting forfeits at 112, 119 and 125, and getting a fall from Jordan Marshall over Timmy Collier (0-3) at 130. In the recent Tri-County Tournament, at Juniata Valley last weekend, Marshall decisioned Collier 7-4 in the opening round on Friday night.<br \/>\nShane Noye (3-2) received a win by forfeit to put the Blue Devils on the board at 135, but Glendale got those points right back at 140, where Steven Rusnak pinned Cody Fink (0-3) in 5:27.<br \/>\nBellwood-Antis battled the Vikings for the remainder of the match, winning five of the final eight and actually had a chance to pull of an upset, if they hadn\u2019t had to make up a 24-point deficit.<br \/>\nUndefeated Ricky Shawley (8-0) made short work of Joshua Sanders, taking the Glendale sophomore down and quickly working for the fall in 1:48 at 145.<br \/>\nAt 152, Ronnie Wilson (5-4) moved over the .500 mark by winning a 1-0 decision over Kelsey Tarr. After wrestling through two scoreless periods, Tarr allowed Wilson to escape to begin the third period and neither wrestler was able to score for the rest of the match.<br \/>\nIn a rematch from the consolation final match for fifth place at the Tri-County at 160, Garett Wyland (1-4) lost for the second time to Craig Bickford. Wyland saved his team three team points however to keep the Blue Devils in the match. After getting pinned at the TCT, Wyland used two penalty points and a first-period reversal to yield just an 8-4 regular decision. Bickford was up just 6-4, after getting called for his second stall call by the referee, but added a late reversal to ice his triumph.<br \/>\nMichael Hommer pinned T. J. Byers at 171 to swell the Glendale advantage to 39-15. Everybody knew that 103-pounder Troy Weyant (6-2) fresh from a championship at the Tri-County would receive a forfeit, so Bellwood-Antis needed three pins to tie the final score and send the dual to criteria for the decision.<br \/>\nAt 185 and 215, Bellwood-Antis wrestlers reversed losses from over the weekend to give Bellwood-Antis an outside chance.<br \/>\nFirst, Jimmy Watters, who was pinned in the opening round by Delwyn Fry, scored the first takedown, but fell behind Fry 10-2 after two periods. Then, Watters (2-5) made Fry pay for chosing to begin the third period on top. Watters turned Fry for a reversal and promptly put him on his back and recorded the pin at the 4:42 mark, at 185. Second, Caleb Stevens, who had been in the consolation rounds by Cody Caracciolo came from trailing 4-0 to open the second period with a reversal, again after his Glendale foe had taken the top to start the period and followed with a fall in 3:31 to slice the Vikings lead to 39-27, with Weyant\u2019s six points coming and Shomo and Morder to wrestle.<br \/>\nBellwood-Antis will host West Branch on Thursday, with the junior high match beginning at 6 p.m. and the varsity to follow at 7 p.m.<br \/>\nJunior High<br \/>\nThe Bellwood-Antis junior high wrestlers opened their dual season by smashing Glendale 71-27. Lincoln Stehley (115), Tyler Beech (138), Travis Taylor (145), Trey Campbell (165), and Eric Miller (185) won by pin, Luke McFarland (100), Adam Davinsizer (105), Trevor Helsley (90) and Jeremy Claypool (95) won by forfeit.
