Erickson and Ashley Lechner each added a bucket for the Lady Blue Devils who finished out a 13-3 first quarter.
“We came out very strong with a good defensive effort to hold them to three points in the first quarter and I think that kind of put them back on their heals a little bit,” explained Bellwood-Antis coach Ali Stodart. “Right from the start we took control, which is exactly what we wanted to do.”
After Webb canned a trey to push the B-A lead out to 16-5, Glendale scored four straight points to cut their deficit to seven points at 16-9, only to have Erickson hit two free throws and a basket, and Lauren Lender added one of two foul shots to build the lead to 23-9.
Glendale brought the margin right back to 10 by hitting the final two baskets of the first half.
With the Lady Blue Devils leading 23-13 to begin the third period, Bellwood-Antis got a little sloppy, but Webb outscored Glendale 10-5, scoring all of the B-A girls points in the quarter to give her teammates a 33-18 advantage going into the final eight minutes.
A Lender free throw to begin the fourth quarter stretched the B-A lead to its greatest margin 34-18.
Glendale hit 11 of the next 14 points to lower the B-A lead to eight at 37-29, but Lechner sank two free throws to reestablish a 10-point margin and the Lady Blue Devils outscored Glendale 8-5 over the final three minutes of the contest to win their second straight game, following a 1-7 start to the season.
Shalee Hunter hit one of two foul shots and two buckets, Victoria Lombardo two free throws and Erickson one of two to finish out the quarter.
Webb was the high scorer with 15 points and added five steals and four rebounds.
“She play an excellent game, from the very beginning of the game, she was one of the reasons we took that 13-3 lead at the end of the first quarter,” said Stodart about Webb. “She really got out in the passing lane, played aggressive and knocked her foul shots down. We were definitely very pleased with the way she played tonight.”
Lombardo had six steals for the Lady Blue Devils, who had a total of 25 steals, including five in the first few minutes of the ballgame. Erickson added 12 points and three blocks to go with six rebounds. Hunter had four steals and six rebounds.
“We did a good job defensively. I think that was because we came out so aggressively in the first quarter,” said Stodart. I think our offense got some confidence from what our defense was doing.
