A 50-year-old Tyrone man, Thomas Martin Hammond, 1010 Cameron Ave., has reached a plea agreement regarding charges against him for indecent assault involving minors.
\nOne of Hammond\u2019s cases stems from an alleged Dec. 21, 2005 incident in Tyrone involving a girl under the age of 16. He was charged with indecent assault without the consent of the other person, indecent assault against someone less than 16 by someone four or more years older than the victim and harassment\/stalking.
\nHammond was also charged with indecent assault charges against a person less than 13 years of age in Blair County for unrelated incidents that are alleged to have happened in 2004. A trial regarding the 2004 incidents was scheduled for early October. The Blair County Court Administrator\u2019s office had previously told The Daily Herald the cases were combined and the trial was continued.
\nThe plea regarding the cases came down shortly before Thanksgiving. The Herald was able to confirm the plea through Assistant District Attorney Terry Tomassetti.
\nUnder the plea, Hammond will serve six to 23 and-a-half months. The sentences will be served concurrently. Tomassetti said Hammond will begin serving his sentence shortly after Christmas.
\n\u201cThere is a lot of give and take in these types of cases,\u201d said Tomassetti. \u201cYou have young people testifying on very sensitive matters. So, that is a benefit in this case for those young children not to go through the trial.\u201d
\nEarlier this year, Hammond plead guilty to a single charge of indecent assault in a Centre County child sex case that dated back to the mid-1990s. In that case, Hammond was arrested earlier this year and was originally charged with raping two young girls at a Port Matilda residence during a five-year period starting in 1995 and ending in 2000.
\n Hammond will serve a nine to 23 and-a-half months sentence. Hammond will be eligible for parole after nine months. He also will be placed on two years probation. If Hammond is paroled before completing his sentence he will be on parole for the remainder of the sentence then the probation would commence.
\nHammond is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 28 regarding the Centre County case. In that case, Hammond remains free on $100,000 unsecured bond pending his December sentencing.
\n In May, Hammond posted bond of $5,000 each unsecured in the 2004 Blair County cases against him. In the 2005 Tyrone case, Hammond is free on $50,000 unsecured bail with additional conditions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
