And he cooks better than most too! \u201cBoots\u201d will be entering the sixth annual \u201cSatan\u2019s Revenge ChiliFest\u201d for the third year in a row. After being \u201cshut out\u201d from the awards, he\u2019s hoping the third time \u201cis the charm!\u201d<br \/>\nThe event raises funds to help homeless animals at the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society and pits area restaurants and pubs against each other in a chili cook-off (Sunday, November 19 at Burgi\u2019s Roundhouse, Altoona) with trophies, plaques and \u201cbragging rights\u201d as prizes.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, across town, the bragging rights last year went to the folks at Tyrone\u2019s Bull Pen who scored twice (3rd place, \u201cBest Bowl\u201d and 2nd place \u201cPeople\u2019s Choice\u201d) with their \u201cBull Pen Chili.\u201d  They\u2019re hoping to best Boots again this year, but the competition is friendly and all in fun. And \u201cchili chef\u201d Kerry Sickler is pinning her hopes on a repeat by offering a second choice for diners this year. She calls it \u201cEl Toro Caliente\u201d (the hot bull!). Kerry says her recipes vary based on the types of chilis she finds to cook up the spicy dishes.<br \/>\nIn addition to Racer\u2019s and the Bull Pen, this year features new entries from Magoo\u2019s (Cresson) with \u201cShovelhead\u201dchili and \u201cMountain Madness\u201d. Also new will be competition from Altoona\u2019s Black &#038; Gold Tavern offering up \u201cRed Zone\u201d chili and \u201cJamaican Jerk\u201d chili from Club Coconuts (Altoona). Returning competitors include The Heidelberg Country Club (\u201cHCC Tex\/Mex Style\u201d chili and \u201cThree Bean Chili\u201d), the U.S. Hotel Restaurant &#038; Tavern (Hollidaysburg) with \u201cHoly Habanero!\u201d chili,  The Phoenix (a previous \u201cBest Bowl\u201d winner) serving up an all-new offering this year they call \u201cYou\u2019re Not Man Enough!\u201d and host restaurant Burgi\u2019s Roundhouse with \u201cDiesel Fuel\u201d and \u201cSteam Engine\u201d chili.<br \/>\nThe event will also feature raffle prizes and a 50\/50 with entertainment provided by perennial local favorite \u201cZupe\u201d (the one-man-band).<br \/>\nTop prize at the cook-off (\u201cBest Bowl\u201d) is a traveling trophy awarded to the best chili as chosen by a celebrity judging panel. The \u201cPeople\u2019s Choice\u201d award is given on the basis of votes as cast by party-goers.<br \/>\n\u201cThis year we have a very special event we know will be a crowd-pleaser,\u201d says Dave Hopkins, CPHS Director of Fundraising\/Public Relations and ChiliFest organizer. \u201cJoe Murgo (TV10 Chief Meteorologist) will be challenging local radio legend Dick DiAndrea (WALY) and sidekick \u201cEddie Ray\u201d to a special and separate \u2018grudge match cook-off\u2019 to be decided by those who sample and vote. We know it\u2019s going to be a tough competition but also a lot of fun! Joe has won all three previous individual competitions but Dick says his chili will be tops!\u201d says Hopkins. Joe calls his chili \u201cMurgo\u2019s Meltdown\u201d with Dick using a name offered by one of his listeners, \u201cDick\u2019s Chili \u2018Ray\u2019 Venge!\u201d<br \/>\nThe event always features a celebrity judging panel that this year will consist of Sam Zema (Daily Herald), Altoona Mirror General Manager Neil Rudel, Johnstown Tribune-Democrat editorial page Editor, Bruce Wissinger, Craig \u201cThe Iceman\u201d Andrews (Q-94 radio), Elsie Zengel (Altoona Curve), Doug Herendeen (WRTA radio) and Roger Corey (WALY radio).<br \/>\n\u201cAnd our star panelist\u2026.just in case\u2026.is our favorite gastroenterologist, Dr. Ralph McKibbin!\u201d added Hopkins.<br \/>\nThe Herald\u2019s Zema said, \u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to this event again this year. After having participated in the last two years, I feel I\u2019m a veteran now and my stomach is ready for just about anything they have to offer. I\u2019m more than glad to participate in this worthwhile event to benefit CPHS.\u201d<br \/>\nHopkins says \u201cprime sponsors\u201d for the event this year are City Beverage and New Look Uniform.  Additional sponsors include the Gingrich Agency, Dr. Ralph McKibbin, the Brew Zoo, Blair Orthopedics Associates &#038; Sports Medicine, W.S. Lee &#038; Sons, Inc., Blair Insurance, Blair Candy Company and V.I.P. Pets and Aquarium.<br \/>\nTickets for the all-you-can eat event (beginning at 7 p.m.) are $12 and can be purchased at The Daily Herald, the CPHS Shelter (1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd.), the CPHS Thrift Shop (220 E. Walton Ave., Altoona), Chris\u2019 Hallmark (Pleasant Valley Shopping Center), V.I.P.
