His early music accomplishments include being chosen to perform with the Pennsylvania State Choir in the spring of 1984. He also was selected to perform bugle duty, playing Taps for local V.F.W. and American Legion ceremonies and funerals.
‘Zupe’ then enlisted in the United States Air Force in the summer of 1984. While serving in the Air Force, he continued to advance musically, serving as the student director/arranger of the Sheppard Air Force Base Drum & Bugle Corps. When he was stationed in Germany, he also won a number of talent competitions, along with a national champion title in the ‘Self-Accompanied Vocalist’ category. ‘Zupe’ played in various piano bars and played keyboards in a high energy rock band.
Following his 1988 honorable discharge from the Air Force, ‘Zupe’ quickly made a name for himself as a modern-day one man band, using computers, keyboards, and drum machines. His use of computers and keyboards helps ‘Zupe’ to create a whole band effect so successful that the audience finds it hard to believe that only one man is performing on stage. He later played in a successful rock band in Europe while studying jazz composition under a Juliard master pianist.
Zupe’s published works have appeared in a number of television shows, including ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ and ‘The Simple Life’ on Fox, ‘Dateline NBC’, and MTV’s ‘Road Rules’ and ‘The Real World’. He also had published on cable networks A&E and The History Channel.
Dick DiAndrea of WALY 103.9 FM stated that ‘Zupe’ was one of the finest performers he has ever known.
All Sunday concerts begin at 6 p.m. Concerts are free of charge and audience members should bring a chair or blanket for seating. If rain occurs, the concerts will be moved to the First English Lutheran Church, at the corner of Logan Avenue and 13th Street.
Upcoming Sunday concerts include ‘Lou Stein Band’, performing a variety of jazz and big band music on August 12; ‘Michael O’Brian Band’, performing a variety of Irish music on August 19; and the Summer Concert Series concludes with ‘The Local Country Band with Clayton Hoover’ on August 26.
All concerts are made possible by a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts and Tyrone Borough.
For additional information, contact the Arts Line at 684-ART2.

A variety of music for all ages will be heard at the Reservoir Park Amphitheater this Sunday, August 5 when ‘Zupe’ takes the stage as part of the Tyrone Regional Arts Council’s Summer Concert Series. ‘Zupe’ will perform the best in music of the 1940’s to today. ‘Zupe’ has been entertaining audiences of all ages […]

[3,7

post-4078","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news-in-the-tyrone-pennsylvania-area","category-excerpts-from-the-tyrone-daily-herald
["GET
