Harry K. Sickler Jr., CPA, received the 2006 Distinguished Public Service Award by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
\nSickler, who is widely credited for helping to rekindle a flagging economy in Tyrone, was honored by the PICPA at the Institute\u2019s Annual Business Meeting on June 1 in Hershey.
\nSickler is senior partner with Harry K. Sickler Associates. He spearheaded local projects to save Edgemate Inc. and the Tyrone paper mill when it appeared that both would go out of business. In the process, he helped save hundreds of jobs.
\nThe CPA of more than 40 years also founded the Tyrone Improvement Corp., Sinking Valley Country Club, and the Tyrone Monogram Club. Sickler was also influential in the continued existence of the Tyrone Hospital, Grier School, Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Second Mile Club, which is a program for challenged youth. In addition, he is past president of the PICPA\u2019s Central Chapter and a lifetime member of the organization.
