{"id":41044,"date":"2006-06-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-06-15T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/v3\/?p="},"modified":"2006-06-15T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2006-06-15T00:00:00","slug":"First-Fun-Friday-concert-to-feature-quartet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/?p=41044","title":{"rendered":"First Fun Friday concert to feature quartet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The opening performance group of Tyrone\u2019s Fun Friday concert series, A Few Good Reeds, brings together the vast talent of four area musicians.<br \/>\nOrganized by Tyrone Area High School\u2019s instrumental director, Aaron Patterson, this talented quartet features musicians who attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania with Patterson. The program will reflect a wide range of musical interests with numbers ranging from the classics to contemporary.<br \/>\nMembers of A Few Good Reeds includes Patterson on the soprano saxophone. Originally from Carlisle, he graduated summa cum laude from IUP with a music education degree and recently finished a graduate degree in saxophone performance.<br \/>\nKurt Cessna, originally from Indiana, PA, performs on the alto saxophone. Cessna is currently the choral and band director at Berlin Brothersvalley School and has been a featured soloist with many ensembles and bands.<br \/>\nMusician Steven Fitzgerald, a graduate of IUP, will highlight the tenor saxophone. Currently Fitzgerald is pursuing a Masters degree in saxophone Performance from the Hartt School of Music and has performed in New York City and George Mason University.<br \/>\nThe final member of the quartet is Jennifer Shuty on the baritone saxophone. Originally from Portage, Shuty is currently band director for Portage Area High School. Also pursuing a degree in saxophone performance, she has performed at Governor Rendell\u2019s inaugural party, won the Bronze medal at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, and performed as featured soloist for many area orchestras.<br \/>\nFun Friday concerts begin at 7 p.m. in the City Hotel Park located at Pennsylvania Avenue and 10th Street in downtown Tyrone. In the event of rain the program will be held in the TCP building on Logan Avenue.<br \/>\nThe Fun Friday schedule includes:<br \/>\n\u2022 June 23 \u2013 \u201cSecond More Than Forever\u201d Youth Concert<br \/>\n\u2022 June 30 \u2013 EBC Praise Team (gospel \/ inspirational) and Family Movie at Dusk<br \/>\n\u2022 July 7 \u2013 Michael O\u2019Brian Band (Irish)<br \/>\n\u2022 July 14 \u2013 Dennie Huber: Music and Magic<br \/>\n\u2022 July 21 \u2013 Family Movie at Dusk<br \/>\nAlso, Summer Sundays at Reservoir Park\u2019s amphitheater will feature the music of the big bands, Dixieland, rock, and country. On July 9 the energetic music of Dixieland, Ragtime and the Blues will open the series as the Summit City Saints Dixieland Band performs. The 17-piece \u201cBig Band Sound, Inc.\u201d will bring back the glory days of the forties with that incomparable big band sound on July 16.<br \/>\n\u201cKeystone Society of Swing\u201d will continue the music of the big bands on July 23 with an eighteen-piece orchestra. Classic rock, and country is the specialty of \u201cBroken Penny\u201d who performs on July 30. The consummate performer \u201cZupe\u201d will entertain on August 6 with his special stage show.<br \/>\nThe Reservoir Park series concludes with the one and only \u201cLou Stein Band\u201d featuring musicians from across the country.<br \/>\nSummer Sunday concerts begin at 6 p.m. and in the event of rain will be held at the Lutheran Church on Logan Avenue.
