On the afternoon of Friday, May 12, in the high school library, the 16 students in Tyrone High\u2019s ninth grade academy heard Tyrone graduate and Penn State mechanical engineer Mr. Robert Campbell present a talk entitled, \u201cSome Challenges You Will Face in Your Future\u201d.
\nA 1994 honors graduate of Tyrone Area High School, Campbell earned both a bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degree at Penn State University. At the present time, this mechanical engineer works in Penn State\u2019s Applied Research Laboratory doing service related to Navy Submarines and with a device to assist the human heart.
\nAt the conclusion of Campbell\u2019s talk, Dr. Rebecca Erb presented each ninth grade with a token of appreciation, recognizing their hard work and good behavior. School chef Paula Binus and her assistants from The Eagle Inn provided hors d\u2019oeuvres for the audience of students, teachers, parents and friends at an informal reception, where participants could greet Mr. Campbell.
\nConcluded ninth grade English teacher Richard Merryman, \u201cWe consider it a high honor when such a distinguished Tyrone graduate as Robert Campbell can return to his Alma Mater, deliver a speech, and act as a marvelous role model for our younger students.
\n\u201cWe also commend Dr. Erb, Dr. Miller and Mrs. Lang for motivating ninth grade teachers to challenge Tyrone freshmen through our academy curriculum which involves guest speakers, field trips and experiences that create connections between different academic subjects and the ever expanding world outside of school.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
