{"id":41237,"date":"2006-05-13T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-05-13T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/v3\/?p="},"modified":"2006-05-13T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2006-05-13T00:00:00","slug":"Joshua-House-preparing-for-summer-activities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/?p=41237","title":{"rendered":"Joshua House preparing for summer activities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Area kids looking for something to do can check out what\u2019s happening at the Joshua House, which will be brimming with activity all summer.<br \/>\nAccording to director Jim Kilmartin and assistant director Nate Verilla, they have been spending a lot of time planning upcoming events and activities for the summer including, a beach trip for kids as a reward for academics, a white water rafting trip, IMPACT Camp, paintball and camping to name a few.<br \/>\nOn Sunday evenings, Youth Church is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Joshua House. The focus for this summer is \u201cFaith Factor\u201d, which is described as a combination of \u201cFear Factor\u201d and \u201cSurvivor\u201d. Participating kids will compete in fun activities, and \u201cFaith Factor\u201d is open to all area youth ages 12-years-old and up.<br \/>\nVerilla said, \u201c\u2018Faith Factor\u2019 is going to be the highlight of Joshua House this summer. We encourage all youth in the Tyrone area to come and be a part of it.\u201d<br \/>\nAnother exciting program Joshua House is starting this summer is \u201cJoshua House Juniors\u201d Summer Day Camp 2006 scheduled for June 19 through August 18 for children entering grades one through six.<br \/>\nProgram hours are scheduled as: drop-off hours: 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.; program hours: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and pick-up hours: 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.<br \/>\nThe summer day camp offers afternoon activities for each day of the week: Monday, swimming; Tuesday, arts and crafts; Wednesday, swimming at the pool; Thursday, community service and Friday, field trips.<br \/>\nThere are already some fun field trips planned including trips to the Altoona Curve, DelGrosso\u2019s Amusement Park, bowling and more.<br \/>\nProgram costs are: weekly for one child, $120 and daily for one child, $28. Daily lunch costs $2, which includes drink, entree, snack and dessert.<br \/>\nThere will be scholarship possibilities available. Contact 684-2032 or email jhousejuniors@joshuahousetyrone.org for more information.<br \/>\nThe director of Joshua House Juniors is Tommie Murray, who graduated from Penn State University Main Campus in Elementary Education with honors.<br \/>\nKilmartin added he would like to progress this program into the fall as an addition to what Joshua House offers the community.<br \/>\nSummer hours at Joshua House are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.<br \/>\nCurrently, Joshua House is holding a Mother\u2019s Day Flower Sale scheduled for today from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and a car wash from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.<br \/>\nThe Joshua House Sixth Annual Hoopsfest is scheduled for July 22 on 10th Street in downtown Tyrone.<br \/>\nDivisions will be: grades four and five mixed, grades six and seven mixed, grades eight and nine boys and girls and grades 10 through 12 boys and girls. Open divisions include recreational, competitive, all-star and 50 and over.<br \/>\nThe hoopsfest will feature a three-on-three street basketball tournament, dunk contest and three-point contest.<br \/>\nThere will also be street vendors, family entertainment and a concert.<br \/>\nThe hoopsfest will have prizes for each division winner and give-aways all day long.<br \/>\nThe registration fee is $50 before July 20 and $60 after July 20. Those that refer a team will get $10 off their registration fee.<br \/>\nInterested teams can register online at www.joshuahousetyrone.org.
