Tyrone plays BG at 1 p.m. on Friday
\nALTOONA — The fourth annual Dean Patterson Curve Classic will take place beginning this Thursday, bringing some of the region\u2019s best high school baseball teams to Blair County Ballpark in Altoona.
\nThe area\u2019s premiere high school baseball tournament includes an eight-team field that features two of the previous three DPCC champions. Defending champion Hollidaysburg and 2003 winner Altoona will be joined by Bishop Guilfoyle, Central (Martinsburg), Central Mountain, Forest Hills, Lewistown and Tyrone.
\nTyrone is in the Classic for the second straight year and will open against Bishop Guilfoyle at 1 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Eagles also opened the 2005 tournament against BG. Clint Wilson dominated the Marauders, allowing just three runners to get as far as second base in a 6-1 victory. The Tyrone southpaw allowed just a solo home run to Tom Gibbons, and Brice Mertiff, Derrick Soellner and Josh Clark had two hits each to lead the Eagle attack. Tyrone then dropped a twice rain-delayed semifinal contest to eventual Classic champion Hollidaysburg 10-0 in five innings.
\nThe Dean Patterson Curve Classic will be played over four consecutive days with all quarterfinal, semifinal and championship round action being contested at Blair County Ballpark.
\nFor the first time, the tournament will include a consolation round, guaranteeing that each participating school will play at least two games in the tournament
\nQuarterfinal match-ups will be held on Thursday, April 27 and Friday, April 28 with the winners advancing to the semifinal round on Saturday, April 29. Consolation games will take place before the semifinals, beginning at 10:00 AM. The champion of the 2006 DPCC will be crowned on Sunday, April 30 at 1:00 PM.
