The Bald Eagle Creek Trout Tournament Association (BECTTA) is holding its 8th annual trout-fishing tournament on April 22 – 23.
\nThe tournament will be held on the Bald Eagle Creek in and around the borough of Port Matilda.
\nBECTTA president John M. Jackson said last year\u2019s tourney proved to be very successful for the seventh consecutive year. The tourney benefits The Bald Eagle Sportsmen\u2019s Club and The Port Matilda Fire Company. In a letter seeking support for the event, Jackson noted the Bald Eagle Sportsmen\u2019s Club uses its funds to make improvements and repairs to its cooperative trout nursery. The organization also sponsors 10 children\u2019s fishing derbies each year, which are free and open to the public. The Port Matilda Fire Company uses its funds to help meet a challenging operating budget, according to Jackson\u2019s letter.
\nBECTTA and the beneficiary organizations are asking local businesses and individuals for help in sponsoring the trout that will be used in this year\u2019s tourney. Jackson noted that both beneficiary organizations provide many valuable resources to the area and without fundraising events, would cease to exist.
\nThe sponsored trout are tagged with a number matching the number and dollar amount indicated on the sponsorship card. In his letter, Jackson explained if a registered fisherman catches a trout, the fisherman receives the sponsored amount. Sponsors have two options. They can contribute an up front amount regardless of whether or not the fish is caught or they may elect to only contribute if a registered fisherman catches a sponsored fish during the tourney.
\nRegistered fishermen provide a donation for the right to fish in the tourney.
\nThe senior sponsor for the event is M & T Bank. Co-sponsors are CM Sports, Family Clothesline, Lee Industries, Inc., Leonard S. Fiore, Inc., Mecco Construction, Mosquito Creek Sportsmen\u2019s Association and Port Elevator, Inc.
