The money also goes towards other community service projects such as the annual Easter Egg Hunt, the Fish Rodeo, Boss of the Year Award, The Betty F. Simpson Award, Pee Wee T-Ball Team, a Teener League Team, Junior Football Competition and the Halloween Parade.
Every year, the radio auction is aired live over WTRN 1340 AM. For one weekend a year, The Daily Herald office is transformed into the headquarters for the TACO Radio Auction, where the items and the phone lines are located.
The money TACO raises helps to fund the projects the service organization sponsors for the Tyrone community in the coming year, and it is the group’s largest fund raiser of the year.
Chairpersons for the TACO Radio Auction include: president, Ruth Brower; vice president, Dave Kaup and Buddy Daughenbaugh.
“I just want to say thank you to all the businesses who donated to our annual TACO Radio Auction this year,” said Brower. “It was another successful year. I also want to thank all the listeners, too. Without you, our auction would not be possible.”
Brower would also like to thank Jeanne Price for offering her home to go over the boards and get the total for the auction. Besides Brower, the others who helped with this task included Ann Brower, Dave Kaup and Buddy Daughenbaugh.
Brower would also like to thank Buddy Daughenbaugh for making the boards, and she would like to thank Misty Snyder, Ryan Oser, Dave Kaup and Buddy for helping her put labels on the cards and envelopes, and also putting them in alphabetical order. Brower would also like to thank Ruth Kaup for taking phone calls and doing a lot of running around to gather up merchandise.
Brower said TACO had some new members this year that stepped up and did whatever she asked them to do to help out as well. Whether it was writing on the black board, answering a phone, being a runner, or gathering merchandise for customers, she said everyone worked together and did a fine job.
“Thanks to all the members that took cards and contacted various businesses,” said Brower. “We had a long two days, but we made it. We also had a lot of fun. Without you all, we would not have had a good auction.”
Brower said TACO has planned several upcoming events including the Easter Egg Hunt scheduled for April 8 at 10 a.m. at Reservoir Park. There will also be a visit from the Easter Bunny.
Then on April 29 from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m., TACO has scheduled its Fish Rodeo at Reservoir Park.
