Everyone, of any age, will find the delightful music, choreography and endearing dialogue a tour de force of live theater. It isn’t just a string of his stories. And it isn’t just one of his stories. In fact, what’s been done is to create a totally new, full-length book musical, with a story which weaves together his most famous tales and characters in unexpected ways.
The Seuss lexicon includes hundreds upon hundreds of wondrous characters, creatures, places and things. Seussical incorporates elements from at least 15 of his books, as well as many of his best-loved and most familiar characters. Many of these characters never met one another before. But they meet in this musical. And in the course of the evening, some will fall in love, some will have desperate adventures and some will save the world. And they’ll travel everywhere from The Jungle Of Nool to McEligott’s Pool to Palm Beach.
Leading the journey into this magical world is veteran director, Cindy Bennett.
“We are so fortunate to have compiled a truly talented and energetic cast. They have been a delight to work with, dedicated, committed and excited. I couldn’t have asked for more,” she commented.
Jonathan O’Harrow, who plays Horton The Elephant and was seen as Captain Hook in the TCP production of Peter Pan, is thrilled to be performing with Cindy and TCP again.
“I have always loved the energy and positive message that Seussical presents to the audience. It is contagious. While we (the cast) are preparing this show for you it is impossible for the optimism and happiness not to spill over to us as well. We are having a fabulous time as well as rehearsing a positively wonderful show,” he said.
Seussical will touch something in every member of the audience who shares it with the members of TCP who are preparing it. From the 14 tiny actors portraying the goldfish in a “think” of JoJo, the little Who boy, to seasoned performers such as Nancy Sloss, Alice Mulhollan, Will Jones and Pete Hedberg, to the families participating in the show: Darcy and Hope Wilson, Terri, Desiree, Emily and Zack Dennis, Joe and Lauren Grabowski, Betsy, RJ and Kathleen Beck, everyone finds the joy and wonder of childhood in the characters of Gertrude McFuzz, Horton The Elephant, Mayzie La Bird and, of course, The Cat In The hat.
And the music! Crossing all boundaries, Seussical incorporates all styles of music from gospel to calypso to rock to blues. It is a fast paced, exciting show to listen to as well as watch.
Tickets for Seussical, presented as the second production in the TCP’s 22nd season of live theater in Tyrone, can be obtained by phoning the ArtsLine at 684-ART2 (2782). Curtain will be at 7:30 p.m. each evening.

This weekend, 50 talented local performers, a bank of backstage technicians, racks and racks of custom designed and built costumes, a well seasoned live orchestra and you, an enthusiastic audience, will share a magical journey into the wonderful, wubulous world of Dr. Seuss.
