The Liberty University Chambers Singers will present a concert on Tuesday, March 14 at 7 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church in Tyrone.
\nAdmission for this event is free but a love offering will be taken.
\nAmong the members of the Liberty University group is 2003 Tyrone Area High School graduate Melody Garthwaite.
\nMany area residents may recognize her from her leading roles in the Tyrone High School productions of \u201cThe Music Man\u201d and \u201cJoseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat\u201d.
\nIn \u201cThe Music Man\u201d Garthwaite played the local librarian and piano teacher, Marian Paroo.
\nAs the narrator in \u201cJoseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat\u201d, she told the story of a young man named Joseph and his family living in the land of Canaan.
\nCurrently a junior at Liberty University, Garthwaite is majoring in music education.
\nShe will return to once again perform in Tyrone next Tuesday with her university choir.
\nUnder the direction of Dr. Wayne Kompelien, the Liberty University Chamber Singers have been recognized as one of the premier collegiate choral ensembles in the state of Virginia. They are a group of twenty-four singers, most of them pursuing degrees in vocal performance, music education or sacred music. Specializing in advanced choral literature and performing diverse styles of music, the Chamber Singers offer audiences a wonderful program with something that everyone will enjoy. Each year the Chamber Singers enjoy a spring tour of ministry and cultivating the talents that God has given them.
\nDr. Kompelien received his Doctor of Musical arts degree in vocal performance from the University of Kansas in 1987 and has been directing the Chamber Singers since 1988 and remains an active performer, singing numerous occasions with Opera Roanoke.
\nLast year the Chamber Singers enjoyed a tour through North and South Carolina, and Florida. God has richly blessed, and surely this year\u2019s tour will be no exception.
