Glace wins outstanding field performer
\nThe Nittany Division of the Mt. Conference Track and Field League dominates the big school division as Tyrone athletes excel in the field and on the track. The Mt. Conference League is separated into two divisions with the small school division (Nittany) consisting of teams from Bald Eagle Area, Central, Philipsburg-Osceola, Penns Valley, and Tyrone.
\nThe Allegany Division teams include Bellefonte, Central Mountain, Huntingdon, Indian Valley, and Lewistown.
\nAfter two days of competition the small school division dominated in many events although separate for team score purposes. \u201cA good example of this was our 3200 relay team placed fourth in the Nittany Division but we would have won the big school division,\u201d Coach Yaniello said. \u201cKyle Updike placed second in the high jump (6-0) losing on misses but would have won the big school division. Kyle defeated the Central jumpers in the dual meet and the two jumpers will see each other again Monday and again in the district meet. \u201cKyle has the best jump in the district (6-1) AA or AAA,\u201d and I know he will jump higher.
\nLarry Glace placed first in the Long Jump (19-7 1\/4), second in the Triple Jump (40-0), ran the first leg of the victorious 400 Relay Team, and placed fourth in the 200 (24.05). \u201cLarry had an outstanding two days,\u201d Coach Yaniello said. \u201cCoaches voted him as the outstanding field performer in the Nittany division and he received a trophy for his efforts. We always kid Larry that he is not to bad for a football lineman! You don\u2019t see linemen winning sprinting and jumping events often in track. Larry has come a long way and he is only a junior.\u201d
\nBrandon Gehret smoked the field in the 300 intermediate hurdles winning by a big margin with his best time of the season (43.02).
\n\u201cI really think he has a legitimate shot at going to states. We were using FAT (Fully Automatic Timing) for the meet, which is what they use for districts and states,\u201d explained Yaniello. \u201cYou can subtract .24 seconds to equal hand timing. Gehret\u2019s hand time would have been an outstanding 42.78. The 400 Relay team won by 10 meters with a time of 45.09 with the team of Larry Glace, Shane Emigh, Shayne Tate, and Johnny Franco. Ben Ingle ran an incredible time of 4:30 in the 1600 and placed second breaking his personal record by 6 seconds. Mark Mingle continues to impress in the shot put with another personal best by a foot with a throw of 46-7 1\/4 and placed third. Setting another personal record in the pole vault at 12 feet was sophomore Robbie Hopkins placing third.\u201d
\nOther place winners included Levi Reihart, fifth high jump (5-6), Shane Emigh fourth in the Long Jump (18-5) and fifth in the Triple Jump (37-7), Ross Black fifth in the 110 High Hurdles (17.69), and Richie Stever fifth in the 3200 (10:48). Stever also had a personal record in the 1600 with a time of 4:49.
\n\u201cCoach Everhart and I have been super impressed by freshman Richie Stever,\u201d Yaniello Said. \u201cWe have never had a freshman run the times he is running and he is going to be a good one. Richie works hard in practice and is not satisfied by his times even now. He wants to get better.\u201d
\nBald Eagle Area ran away with the team race on their home track winning eight of the eighteen events while Tyrone had the second best number of winners with three. Central Mountain, a team Tyrone defeated earlier in the week, won the big school Allegany Division over second place Indian Valley.
\nWith only a few girls competing the Lady Eagles managed only one place winner with Lizzie Shields placing third in the 400 (1:05.64).
\nTyrone will have little time to rest as they compete at the Bellwood-Antis Invitational Monday starting at 3:30 p.m. and then have a dual meet with Huntingdon Wednesday followed by the West Central Coaches Meet in Altoona Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
