Tyrone residents can see their town featured in the latest issue of Westsylvania Magazine.
\nThe Winter 2005-2006 issue of Westsylvania shares a story of Tyrone\u2019s history, including the railroad, White Cloverine Salve and, of course, Fred Waring.
\nAnna and Lou Leopold made a trip to Tyrone a year ago, visiting the history museum and then staying to enjoy the Victorian Christmas celebrations that were occurring in downtown Tyrone.
\nWhile visiting, the couple gathered information about Tyrone\u2019s history and compiled a story titled, \u201cTyrone\u2019s Rails to History\u201d, which has been printed in Westsylvania\u2019s current magazine.
\nThe story starts off telling of Tyrone\u2019s beginnings and its connection with the railroad, then goes on to talk of the Railroad Park and the History Museum.
\nAnother item many Tyrone residents will recognize while reading this story is White Cloverine Salve.
\nThe couple tells the story of this salve and how it came to be. The retelling of this familiar story will bring back many memories to a lot of Tyrone natives.
\nFinally, the Leopolds share stories of one of Tyrone\u2019s most famous residents, Fred Waring.
\nSeveral pictures and information about the Tyrone Area Historical Society accompany the article.
\nThe idea of Westsylvania Magazine was born in the 1980s when many historically rooted industries were struggling, such as coal, steel and the railroads.
\nBy 1985, professional historians, archeologist, architectural historians, folklorists, photographers and other professionals began traveling the area, researching, and gathering information in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fayette, Fulton, Huntingdon, Indiana, Somerset and Westmoreland counties.
\nThe mission of the magazine is focusing Westsylvania communities on wealth creation opportunities that emerge from effective identification, preservation , presentation, interpretation, and marketing of their diverse cultural and natural heritage.
\nIn order to help promote the magazine and share the story of Tyrone with its residents, Westsylvania Heritage Corporation has provided free copies of the magazine for interested individuals.
