Barbara Stewart is the recipient of Tyrone Hospital\u2019s Extra Mile Employee Award.
\nTyrone Hospital grants the award on a quarterly basis to an employee who demonstrates exceptional performance.
\nStewart is a registered nurse. She is a graduate of the nursing program at Lock Haven University. She works in the intensive care unit as well as the emergency room. Her entree to Tyrone Hospital was as a student extern in 1991. She joined Tyrone Hospital as a full\u2013time employee in 1992.
\nIn addition to her nursing responsibilities, Stewart also served as president of the hospital\u2019s employee fund for three years. She also volunteered time to assist with the kids hospital that Tyrone Hospital provided as part of its 50th anniversary celebration.
\nWhen she found out she was the recipient of the Extra Mile Employee Award, Stewart said her first thought was \u201cWho, me?\u201d
\nShe said there are so many hospital employees who are involved in the \u201chospitality\u201d aspect of the hospital.
\n\u201cI was surprised and honored that I was selected,\u201d she added.
\nStewart recently remarried and resides with her husband Jim in Coalport. The Stewarts have six children and 13 grandchildren.
\n\u201cThe Extra Mile Employee Award is special because it is driven by hospital employees,\u201d said Walter S. Van Dyke, Chief Executive Officer at Tyrone Hospital. \u201cIt is an honor to recognize employees like Mrs. Stewart who have been singled out by their co-workers and recognized for exceptional performance.\u201d
