Coming into Tuesday night\u2019s game, Tyrone had just suffered a crushing blow from Bald Eagle Area the night before, losing 74-57 and were looking to make a run against the unbeaten Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders. It was a rematch of the second round playoff loss Tyrone had taken from Guilfoyle this past season at Hollidaysburg Area where the Marauders were led by Sean McConnell with 19 points. Now, Tyrone (1-1) faced off in 2005 against Bishop Guilfoyle (2-0) in their home opener to look for their second win in the regular season.
\nIt was a battling first quarter led by Byron Kost and Steve Catich scoring at will against the Marauder defense. Catich started off the game with a trey in the first 15 seconds of the game, taking an early 3-0 lead, but Matt Baronner took it strong at the other end and recorded the \u201cand-one\u201d to knot the game at three a piece.
\nAfter a Baronner trey, Catich and Kost both chipped in two a piece to put them up 7-6 at the 5:00 mark. On the ensuing possession after a Marauder miss, Kost found a crack in the tight match-up of Sean McConnell and nailed a three putting Tyrone up 10-6 with 4:30 to go.
\nTyrone would then suffer some defensive rebounding problems as Adam Meyers grabbed not one, but two straight offensive rebounds and put an uncontested lay-up to cut the lead to two with 4:03 to go in the first. This was the start of a 10-0 run with 1:53 left putting BG on top, 16-10 and increased the score to 20-13 at the end of one led by Baronner with nine.
\n\u201cWe\u2019re not really sure what happened at the end of the first quarter,\u201d Tyrone coach Mike Harris said. \u201cWe played well, but they started hitting a couple open shots. We started panicking a little when we were trailing and didn\u2019t do the little things right which gave them opportunities to take a big lead.\u201d
\nAfter the first quarter, Catich led Tyrone with eight and looked to help spark a run in the second quarter for the Eagles to jump back into the game.
\nDown seven, Josh Clark tried to bring the Eagles back to life, scoring nine of his game high 17 points in the second quarter alone. He was all over the floor, driving and dishing, but the Marauders were just too tough under the boards and had plenty of open three point attempts that they took advantage of, putting them up 11 at the end of the half.
\nThe Marauders had the advantage on Tyrone\u2019s 1-3-1 zone, nailing six three point field goals in the first half and had costly runs of 12-3 and 9-2 to put the Marauders in a comfortable position at the end of the first half.
\n\u201cWe needed to bounce back in the second half and when you have zero defensive rebounds in the first half, it is hard to make any sort of run to get back into the game,\u201d Harris said. \u201cWe are really good on the boards and tonight\u2019s game we were beat at our own game on the glass.\u201d
\nTyrone started out the second half looking to overcome the large deficit and make a quick run to start off the third quarter. A talk with the coach at halftime may have pushed the Eagles forward a little as they came out firing from all sides.
\nAfter three points off of foul shots from Doug Morrow and Leonard Wilson, the Marauders answered back with a trey from Steve St. John, matching Tyrone with one shot.
\nOn the ensuing possession, Morrow tore down an offensive rebound and powered it back up to cut the lead to nine until Baronner stroked a trey to put the Marauders back up 12, 42-30 with 6:04 to go in the third.
\nIt wasn\u2019t out of reach yet, as Tyrone began with two foul shots from Clark and sparked an 8-0 run to cut the lead to four (42-38) with 2:48 left in the quarter. It was looking great for the Eagles as they poured in a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line on their run, but they took a deep breath and the Marauders knocked the wind right out of Tyrone with a 9-0 run to end the third quarter.
\nTyrone looked rough going into the fourth quarter, picking up several fouls as both teams were in bonus going into the fourth quarter. Tyrone trailed 53-38 after cutting the lead down to just four points with less than three minutes to go.
\nSean McConnell led the Marauders with seven points in the third, all from foul shots. He pushed the Marauders ahead and sliced through Tyrone\u2019s defense in the 9-0 run at the end of the third quarter.
\nAfter three-quarters of play, Bishop Guilfoyle definitely had the upper hand in the fight. They out-rebounded, out-hustled, and basically out-played Tyrone going into the fourth quarter. They answered every large run Tyrone put on the table and took control on offense as they had almost two shots per offensive trip.
\nIt was a battle to the finish, but the Marauders finished off the deal as Tyrone could only pull within 10 points (68-58-2:30) and shot twenty of their 36 foul shots in the fourth quarter alone. McConnell had 12 of the Marauders 20 foul shots, making eight of his game high 24 points in the Marauders victory at Tyrone.
\n\u201cWe need to come out and play four quarters of basketball every game,\u201d coach Mike Harris said. \u201cWe play Kiski Area this Friday and we have to do the little things right in order to win games.\u201d
\nThe final ended up 79-64 due to foul shots at the end, but Tyrone will take a couple days off as they will face Kiski Area Friday at 4:00 p.m. in the Hollidaysburg Tip-Off Classic. Josh Clark and Byron Kost led Tyrone with 17 and 13, hitting four trey\u2019s between the two. Tyrone shot just 21 foul shots compared to BG\u2019s 38.

\n Tyrone\u2019s Jamie Levinson knocked down 15 with three trey\u2019s in the win against Bishop Guilfoyle last night in Tyrone\u2019s home opener. Tyrone completely dominated on defense and pushed the ball hard the entire game, streaking past BG 54-44.
\nTyrone pulled away in the fourth quarter with a 6-0 run to put the Eagles up 48-39 and never looked back.
\nJon Kirsh netted 17 for the Marauders in their defeat against Tyrone Tuesday night.
