Tyrone is ready to begin the festivities with the second annual Tyrone Victorian Christmas celebration, scheduled for December 1-3 in downtown Tyrone.<br \/>\nFestivities will begin with the tree lighting on Thursday, December 1 at 6 p.m. in front of the post office. The annual Christmas parade will follow at 6:15 p.m. Then, children are invited to visit with Santa at the Armory following the parade.<br \/>\nAlso on Thursday, the sixth annual soup tasting will be held at the Tyrone Social Center from 4:30 to 6 p.m.<br \/>\nOn Friday, December 2, Faces and Places Ministry will present the Christmas production, \u201cThe Journey\u201d at the Community Worship Center on Bald Eagle Avenue, at 7 p.m.<br \/>\nActivities will continue on Saturday, December 3 with vendors throughout the downtown area. A craft show will be held inside the former Dollar General Store on 10th Street, with over 40 vendors and crafters. There will be many items on sale at the craft show such as candles, yule logs, soaps, beaded and feather jewelry, floral arrangements, wreathes, baskets, embellished and embroidered clothing items, wooden fretwork clocks, hand carved African items, knitted and crocheted scarves and ornaments, hand painted wooden decor and tole painted collectibles plus a beautiful assortment of quilted pillows, wall hangings and table runners.<br \/>\nNancy Kilmartin, Delores Deihl, Dotty Flemming and Ardith Winter from the Cubbyhole will set up a booth and Bob Tennis of Tennis Contracting, will have his country-style furnishings available. Mount Nittany Candles will also have a display featuring Tyrone Victorian Christmas candles.<br \/>\nThere will be something for everyone, just in time for the holidays.<br \/>\nAlso, a variety of food will be available for visitors including sparkling non-alcoholic juices, several different cheeses, fudge, honey, homemade jams and salsas and baked goods from Sweet Morsels.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s not the typical food you find at an event like this,\u201d said Jen Liddick, who helped organize the festivities.<br \/>\nAlso D and B Mixes will be available for purchase. These mixes include hot chocolate, soup, cider and dip, packaged together, making a great gift idea.<br \/>\nBack again this year will be carriage rides, starting at the rail park. The carriage rides are provided by Diamond Lane Carriage Rides of Roaring Spring and are sponsored by Reliance Bank. Tickets are $5 and are available now at the Tyrone Chamber Office, Gardner\u2019s Candies or Reliance Bank, Tyrone Office. The carriage rides will begin at 11 a.m. and will conclude at 4 p.m.<br \/>\nFor the kids, there are activities scheduled at the Armory including games, face painting, kid\u2019s crafts and a visit from Santa.<br \/>\nThe games planned for this year include a sand bag toss, bullseye challenge, a lollipop tree, duck pond and M&#038;M guessing game. There will also be crafts such as creating foam stockings, painting wooden ornaments and making crowns like those wore by the three kings.<br \/>\nThings will work a little different this year with children collecting tickets to join in the games and crafts for free.<br \/>\nMary Lykens will also have a full display of Discovery Toys and products and don\u2019t forget, kids can visit Santa at the Armory and read their Christmas wish list to him.<br \/>\nAt the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library there will be an artisan display, children\u2019s movies and stories read by Mrs. Claus. There will be horse-drawn carriage rides sponsored by Reliance Bank at the Rail Park, as well as a Civil War encampment with Major John Brittan and the Daughters of St. Vincent DePaul.<br \/>\nAlso throughout the weekend there will be live entertainment at City Hotel Park, animated window displays, an ice carving demonstration, high tea at Trinity Episcopal Church and breakfast with Santa at Tyrone Colonial Courtyard.<br \/>\nThe Tyrone Victorian Christmas Celebration Committee is made up of Rose Black, Ray Liddick, Jen Liddick, Scott Collinash, Rhonda Whelan, Laurie Cowfer and Victoria Isenberg.<br \/>\nAnyone with questions about the organization or donations, can contact Ray Liddick Jr. through email at ray@opendoorvisions.com or contact Rose Black at the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce office at 684-0736.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s time once again to begin celebrating the upcoming holiday season.
