A man charged with robbing the Tyrone Uni-Mart in October has decided to waive his right to a preliminary hearing.
\nPolice arrested a man identified as 45-year-old Francis Cyril Campbell aka \u201cVinny\u201d in the Oct. 24 case. Campbell\u2019s last known address was 115 W. 11th St., Tyrone. At the time of his arrest, Campbell claimed to be homeless.
\nAfter the robbery, police were able to make an arrest when a Tyrone police officer spotted a man on a nearby street who fit the suspect\u2019s description. The man ran into a a tavern and police followed him and eventually took him into custody.
\nThe store clerk made a positive identification of the man in custody. Police recovered $139 that was taken from the clerk. The suspect used a knife in the robbery. The weapon and other items were also seized as part of the investigation. Authorities also recovered a videotape of the incident from Uni-Mart as part of their investigation.
\nCampbell was charged with robbery, terroristic threats, receiving stolen property, harassment, tampering with evidence, simple assault, possession of instruments of crime and disorderly conduct.
\nCampbell was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Joseph Moran and placed in Blair County Prison in lieu of $25,000 straight bail. Campbell waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Tuesday before District Judge Fred Miller.
